I find that sniping in rising storm is very difficult, because the maps are mostly very flat and cluttered, it is hard to find a good sniping spot, with the exception of Iwo Jima, probably the only map I do good on as sniper, any suggestions?

My answer is to find several nice spots on each map (or make it up along the way) and then you sorta just rotate between those spots. Basically what I'm saying is kill a few guys and run to a different position. Unfortunately for snipers, maps are designed so you can't really stick in a spot too much without being shot. I personally like that idea a bit. You don't usually bring scopes into jungles for obvious reasons.

Specifically on Iwo Jima (as Axis) you need to find to find positions on the flanks that have cover or conceal you from that side. For example, if you are on the left flank you want to have cover protecting you on that flank from Allied troops while you are aiming towards the center or right flank. Essentially, you are far enough away that those in the center/right flank won't notice you taking pot shots at them and you'll be protected from direct fire from the left flank. However, if you are too close to an objective you may run the risk of the enemy advancing past or onto your position or an enemy trooper may get the smart idea of throwing a grenade onto you if his TL provided him a recon (or another trooper spotted you). I've never gotten the hang of the iron sights on the sniper rifles as it just feels too strange to use, so when it comes down to <30m fighting I usually just retreat or get in CQC with a pistol.

I know that this is not DIRECTLY on topic, but while we are talking about sniper rifles i would like to know how to use the Japanese scopes. Where do I aim to hit a target at the range the rifle is sighted for? 4x seems to be even worse about this, but I don't have a lot of experience with either scope because even if I get the chance to play Japanese sniper, I don't want to because of the scopes.

There's a few posts on this on the forums (I can't recall which topics, so use the search function) and also there are a couple steam guides via the steam community of Rising Storm (in the overlay) that you can refer to that will help immensely with explaining the Japanese fixed scopes. Going off memory/use, though, I believe the top horizontal line is 100m, 2nd from the top horizontal line is 200m, etc.

Remeber its a Marskman infantry position not a lone "sniper from the movies" position, hiding at long range in a ghillie suit never moving.

Although you are right - its harder in RS than it was in HOS to get a distance spread where being a sniper has an advantage over iron sights!

Just remember that the offset scope for the Arisaka sniper rifle means it has fairly decent iron sights, and that you can reload it using clips like a normal rifle. Very handy indeed on most maps. I tend to find myself using the iron sights more often than the scope, switching to the scope for long range/tricky shots. It's especially nice to scan for targets with iron sights.

The American sniper rifle on the other hand, I find entirely useless in most situations. The high zoom, the lack of iron sights.. terrible really. There are a few spots where it can really shine, like Iwa Jima. But those are the exception rather than the rule.

I have to say I'm actually rather happy with the way sniping is handled in RS. I just hit Veteran and Lv50 with both scoped rifles myself and enjoy it immensely. I admit I occasionally sneak around on my own and just shoot people randomly, but most of the time I try to focus on taking out other snipers or MGs or SLs/TL, if possible. It's more fun that way.
I agree that the Unertl 8x scope is on most maps (disregarding Iwo Jima, where I love it) pretty much useless, so I just take the Lv25 upgrade instead. I overall prefer the Type 99 though.
