Said the guy incapable of formulating a counter argument. If calling you blind for failing to acknowledge a very simple fact equals name calling, you must be really thin skinned. ;)

Okay, fine. By the way, I don't give a crap about the ranking system, and if people want to go and harvest bots to rank up, good for them. I don't care one bit. If a ranking system bothers you so much, go play on unranked servers.

Your original argument was that TW discourages game altering tweaks. I countered that with evidence against your statement, namely the number of whitelisted mutators. Your argument then was basically that none of them count because the mutator that you want hasn't been whitelisted, which is very disrespectful to guys like Mekhazzio and Ducky and the other guys who have put in the effort to write mutators - something I don't see you doing.

Then when you had no other ground to stand on, you went off on a tangent about the ranking system, which has nothing to do with your original argument. Lastly, I did not "fail to acknowledge a very simple fact"; I failed to share your opinion which (this will shock you) is not fact.

I actually really like Barashka :D

Problems with many NEW players is that they think they can play this game like other FPS (COD, BF etc); they've been brainwashed to think that is what a good FPS is. Running around at mostly close quarters where twitch shooting is king and strategy and tactics and teamwork take a back seat. If those new players don't have the patience to learn the game, chances are they wouldn't stick with it regardless.

QUOTE]

Yeah, I really like what they've done with Barashka, too.

It's too bad that the FPS genre has developed the way it has-- but, hey-- when you cater to an audience of 13-18 year old males, who are high on energy drinks-- what do you expect?? :)

Your entire post makes no sense. Either my English is way worse than I thought, or you should read what I wrote twice. My point is that some mutators are not being whitelisted because they could potentially be used to exploit the ranking system. You can't really argue with this, or there would be no whitelist in the first place.
Take for example the one mutator I linked: It could be used to set the spawn timer to 0, thus speeding the gameplay up and consequently giving bigger point rewards per match to the players.
I don't see how the ranking would apply with fun maps such as this one below either, or the one from Ostfront that featured laser MP40s. ;)

Now to the opinion thing: I think this is very bad. While Ostfront had in place a "free market" of sorts, where the only concern when joining a modded server was whether it was fun or not, now not only players are disincentivated to play on unranked servers by virtue that these don't contribute towards unlocks and stats, but (and this is the biggest problem) certain modded or custom servers don't even show up in the main browser tab and thus are condemned to be perpetually empty because the vast majority of people never bother with checking the unranked tab.
Simply joining both tabs would do a great deal to alleviate the situation but it seems to me that TW uses the ranking system to retain control on the way the game is played. Which is fine to preserve something that already works, but may not be as good for a game that struggles to reach 1000 players at one time, especially after the devs admitted they didn't know what the community likes anymore with the unveiling of Action and Classic. :D

Think of it this way, the people who would play this game purely to grind an unlock/progression system aren't exactly going to be very team-work oriented or know how to use the roles properly, thus do you REALLY want play with more and more of these people? I can't speak for the people not posting here, but I think its safe to say that the people here would not disregard a server with the settings they like simply because it is unranked. Of course the problem here comes back to getting said server noticed by everyone - thus your suggestion of combining the ranked and unranked tabs- because if one of these severs running all the proper mutators actually gets properly seeded with players, it has potential to overshadow the most densely and frequently populated ranked Realism severs there are available.

I think parts of the forum are out of step with the people playing the game. A large number of players like the levelling system, and the most prevalent game mode. The wisdom of crowds.

Also, as regards the COD/FPS crowd, you better believe those skills translate. When every weapon class is quick to aim, highy accurate, and with high lethality, the main differentiator is reaction time; a highly developed skill in modern shooters. Should such a player come across and break the frustration barrier (you die a lot) that's how they will play, because the most common game mode rewards it.

Whether this is a good or bad thing has been done to death, and doesn't matter - it is here and it is what it is. I'd personally be happy if more people played classic mode, but they don't. The masses have spoken and voted with their feet, so I just accept it.

I still love it and like the fact I have a mode I enjoy and a server I can get on. Perhaps more people will come, who knows. Just keep playing. You get the game you deserve.

we need more free weekends with all the steam spotlights it deserves.

We only have one server per continent wich remains full most of the time.
pratically thats 3. so its 180 people.
Adding the rest of the people these last days the population has not reached 500

Again new Customs just got posted today. Our server is sitting there with all the latest content as of just a few minutes ago, should have good pings to everyone. It's a 50 player server for a reason. Never was too keen on the 64 player and at a certain point lag.

Feel free to see what the new content holds, it's also Classic Mode. There are 20 bots currently and they remove themselves as humans join.

Make it a popular server and we as admins will keep it clean, mature, skilled. We weed out the bad quickly.

Make this your community... Be sure to remove all your Cache files and edit your Cache.ini so you have no issues getting the latest. Don't use Workshop - we have our own redirect. The files are always off and supposedly Workshop issues.

Sounds good. I will check it out later this week. Classic addresses nearly all of my dislikes of RO2, I'm really glad it's there, but I am surprised more people haven't returned; some evenings EST, Ostfront had more choices for players this week. That seems odd to me.

Still low playerbase, nearly empty servers with botfarmers, most servers are running only stockmaps, 1 populated classic server. High ping servers. This game is nearly dead!

Yesterday. a Tuesday, when I joined there were nearly 600 players. This past weekend there were near 1000 when I was on. That is the lowest I had seen it in awhile on the weekend, usually its around 1200. No problems finding a server, even those running custom maps.

And for the record, those are the numbers that the server browser is telling me :D

And I wish you would stop with the trolling.
If you don't like the game fine, go play something else and let us zombies play our dead game in peace.

I wish most of those servers would stop running bots. Even when there's humans playing they keep bots on it. I simply do NOT join servers with humans AND bots.

Pretty much the most I ever see is around 450 on the weekends, and around 300-350 on weeknights. This is in Texas, central US time, around 9pm. With two kids and a very full list of stuff to do outside gaming, this is about as early as I can get on to play. And lately I see less and less reason to get in and stay in. Maybe two or three servers going steady, a bunch more with 2-3 people playing with bots etc.

A little while back I got tired of playing Bridges over and over, and Winterwald. I was never really all that hip to the stock maps in the first place. I'd like to see a server with a rotation of the new maps, with no stock maps even up for vote. (Except maybe Barashka and Mamayev).

At any rate...back on topic...yes the player count does suffer significantly, at lease when I'm able to look in.

Again it varies by region and by what time you go on. Prime time in the Eastern US has almost always consistently 1000+ players online. Off times are .. well just that, not a lot of people are on. I understand that some people have other obligations that prevents them from playing at prime time, however this should not be inferred as a drop in player pop, as it seems to have stayed up since the release of the Mamayev patch
