I kind of thought HOS SP would have a real story and show cinematics and have the dialog of soldiers during town time. I was thinking they could have showed how war really is instead of all these games that seem glorify war like COD,MOH, etc. But it seems like HOS sp is just bots pretty much. It's not a huge deal breaker for me, but a bit dissapointing.

I thought we all knew from the start that SP wasn't going to be like that. I'm surprised that it even has the campaign mode and a cinematic to brief you on the missions. The vastly improved AI is nice, too. You can actually PLAY the game by yourself for once.

Yes, you're right. I shouldn't complain too much. It is a big step up from Ostfront SP.

Cool story bro

So where'd you pick up your advance copy?
I'm only judging by the videos. It looks like SP is just going to be bots with a briefing before the mission starts.

I really really hope for myself and tripwire that they focus on multi player a lot more than single player.

I don't think it is realistic to expect a great single player and great multi player game from a rather small company.......hell when was the last time you saw a super uber mega triple A title having really good SP and MP? Especially an MP you want to play for years?

We never said we would do a story driven campaign with "pretty cinematic". In fact we said we were not doing that several times.

It costs a load of money and time to develop, and we don't feel it would properly convey the war. It is hard to find a soldier who managed to survive the entire conflict.

But on the other hand, what we do offer is more then just multiplayer maps with bots. We offer players as they progress through the campaign, a variety of scenarios based off real battles that they must overcome. These are focused on the squads that fought the battle, not any individual person.

They already said many times it wasn't gonna be story driven shooter on rails, so no surprise here.

What I find disappointing however, is the apparent Bot behavior, they kinda look like they run around like headless chicken. But I'll save that (and all my judgments) till the game is actually finished and I have tested the final version myself.

I like the way TW is doing the SP. Its dynamic and informative. You'll never play a battle the same way twice and might even learn something in the process.

I get so bored with CoD, MoH style SP that I never finish them. Grinding out the linear path, learn where the AI is, taking 1,000 rounds from the AI before I go down, kill wave after wave after wave of AI <yawn>. Switch to MP and bunny hop/ dolphin dive around a map or two...../uninstall.

Start up RO and play 'till the wee hours of the morning....

One of my main issues based on the footage is with the way the bots react as well, It seems to be that at times the bots just run around like 5 meter next to an enemy. At that point they should either run away to save their life, or just try to kill him. And at times bots seem indecisive and make an instant 180 degree turn.

It doesn't have to be COD,MOH style SP.

I cant think of any war game that managed to be open world and have a story.
I did not expect it from RO2 and I doubt they could of pulled it off.

It seems every game that does not have a cod like story is branded as "multiplayer with bots".

I don't see what you want... scripted events and cut scenes scatted throughout?

I like the way you've done it.

Story driven campaigns are usually fluff, and I thought you'd be going the BF3 direction, trying to "keep up with CoD" as it were... which is really just a bunch of bull****.

To me, it look like you've done combat scenerios, with good AI which seems like a much more down to earth single-player experience. Like the classic Battlefield singleplayer, but with much better AI.

I don't recall Armed Assault or OFP very well, but they had stories and were open world.

Well, look at the brightside. RO2's SP will have a much higher replay factor than if it had an on-rails linear campaign. It's much more about tactics and you can take different approaches. It's also cool that TWI tells the real story of Stalingrad, with the historical facts, rather than a Hollywood depiction of Stalingrad (*cough*CoD*cough*).

That's not to say I wouldn't love an RO-style story-driven SP campaign with characters and epic cutscenes.

I think the problem with the COD is that the linearity was extremely apparent. There were very obvious areas where you couldn't go or were blocked. Games like Half-Life and Doom 3 made the linearity part of the experince, so it wasn't as apparent. Overall though, I agree that I prefer the way the SP seems to be in HOS rather then another boring COD game.

Yeah, so just imagine what they'll be like inside a tank. :IS2:

I also noticed how bad the AI bots seem to be at times in the SP videos. However they very much reminded me of the earlier videos where they displayed some MP gameplay with bots on danzig and claimed the difficulty was on "low" just for the demonstration. Who knows, maybe they demonstrated the SP on "low" difficulty too. Lets hope so, because I love the concept of the SP here, but if the bots don't move around and act more "human" than they did in RO1 then it won't work out too well.
