Homuth!!! You didn't say one thing about IL-2

Like Darkest Hour, IL2CoD is the best mix of enjoyment and realism. The core of the game is certainly very realistic, so is the flight model, but engine start up's and other little things do not work or are not usable, so it takes away from realism. DCS does include these little features which makes it great in realism, not so much in gameplay, especially MP.

DCS sims or the new IL2CoD are a 10

Arma2 with ACE mod are a 10-9
Arma2 with the WW2 mod is a 9
Arma2 with no mod are a 8-9

Darkest Hour is a 7
RO And Ro2 are a 6, they both need mods to higher.

From what ive played of the BF3 id say its a 4. Much higher then i was thinking it would be.

Then you got CODMW2 at like a 1

the level of realism of RO2 is far beyond that of what im used to.

to me it would be an 8 or 9 coming from the battlefield/cod series.

I've never played wither Battlefield or CoD, but Counter-Strike has been one of my favorite games since 1999, and it isn't particularly realistic either, so I would have ranked it similarly myself.

I probably would have given RO2 an 8, and RO a 8.5 with my sense being that any more realistic and it would simply not be fun to play.

U.K.
DoD:S 1 (Arcadey and also no variety of troops. Always infantry vs infantry (No Airborne, Rangers, Fallshirmjager, Waffen SS) and that's quite unrealistic in my eyes)
Just to point out, DoD:Souce is a terrible version of the original DoD. The original having a bigger variety of classes and weapons, it even has different troops. Some maps had Fallshirmjagers in them and certain classes (with the FG42) were only available on those maps. Same goes for the Commonwealth (aka, British) forces and their loadouts. It even played better to boot.

(Yes, I'm somewhat bitter about DoD:S. Although they've apparently sorted out the recoil/firing cone issue that was a design choice and had been plaguing it for years)

would have to give RO2 a 2 then if thats the scale. its basicly your standard FPS on hardcore mode. nothing really exciting or new, same old autos and semi autos running around everywhere just like every other WW2 FPS out there.

I would have to give RO2 a 3 for simple realism things like bullet penetration other little realism things such as that. The very fact that most of the infantry are running around with experimental prototype guns means I cannot give the game more than a 5 anyway. RO2 just has too much "twitch" gameplay to be anywhere near realistic.

Online multiplayer games I've dumped a lot of time to based on realism:

Mount and Blade: Warband - 8/9 - Delicious punishing difficulty. You feel like such a boss when you out-duel another human player in an intense sword-fight, and trying to stop a cavalry charge or cross an open field under arrow fire as infantry is bloody intense.
RO1/RO2 - 6/7 - Same net realism playing in from different factors
CS:S - 2/3 - The original quick-scoping, bunny-hopping "realism" game
TF2 - 0 - Still the most fun you can have with a computer and an internet connection

When you look at it, Ro2 is more realistic in the mechanics, when you got a big wound in a certain you slowly die from it, in Ro1 you just walked slowly for a few seconds...

But after someone got shot in the leg they run like they have not been shot, so i think that after someone bandaged up, they should run and walk slower.

From 0 to 10, with 10 being stuff like DCS Black Shark or perhaps a non-commercial milsim, 0 being your average, unrealistic FPS

I'd say ArmA II, Delta Force and the likes are an 8

RnL for HL2 a 5

ROOST a 4.5

and RO2 a 3

Games like CS and COD are a 1 or something. Maybe DoD is a 1.5

I don't mean to be derisive with this, I just want to see what people think and hopefully get insight on others' perception of "realism" in games, especially in contrast to RO2 (which, IMO, is "authentic" but not realistic). Feel free to add other games to the scale with your personal grade, or argue my grades.

---

0 should really be stuff like team fortress that doesn't even attempt any kind of realism.

0 - TF2
3 - CoD
4 - BF/CS
6 - RO2/ROOST
7 - ArmA (it may have realistic mechanics, but it loses points for being extremely derpy)
10 - Military Training simulators

yes how could he miss that!

il-2 - 8
arma2 - 8
america's army - 5
ROOST - 7
RO2 - 4

gotta confess, i'm after a 10. it doesn't have to be more complicating than ARMA, it's all about the mechanics and feel isn't it.

perhaps developers should spend more time analysing the human being, his vision, endurance, agility and so forth.
instead of making the most beautiful models and animation.
no doubt these are important. but ultimately, the quality of the product is what ensures future sales and support. definitely not just packaging and marketing.

I remember Americas Army. I played it a few times back when it first came out (2002?), primarily because it was a free download.

I don't recall it feeling particularly realistic, and I remember being bothered by the fact that everyone was always playing the U.S. army, Opponents just looked like some type of enemy...

I would have ranked RO (any version) as more realistic than Americas Army... To me it's closer to COD, than it is RO2...

Granted I haven't played it in almost 10 years, so I could be remembering things wrong.

What means to me as "realism" is how close to real combat the game gets. And I mean it in terms of speed, distance, and duration of the engagement. RO2 is far too fast to be realistic, soldiers are far too accurate to be realistic and engagements last way too short to be believable. The more people play, the more they understand how to exploit game engine weaknesses and the more the game gets rushy and CoDdish. Seriously, RO2 is nothing more than a serious version of CoD. Everyone is running around, MGs hipshooting in every building, few poor guys with a rifle frightened in a corner, just cause they came last and couldn't get themselves a PPSh. People surviving a shot to the torso and shooting you back before dying, no more debilitation by wounds, no more weapon falling after a hit, no more penalty for a long sprint. Suppression is a joke, you can easily shoot when fully suppresed. Weapon and player movements suffer of no inertia, you can fully rotate around and nail a shot at 100m without a problem. You can zig zag while sprinting, you can jump around like you were playing Counter Strike, DoD has less stamina than this game damnit! Not even an inventive to play as a team, no informations about who is in your team, where they are, not even a good menu interface to choose one (I mean, cmn TWI...). Seriously, I was excpeting an improved and evolved version of RO1, not an improved Call of Duty with some fancy pseudo-realistic stuff. I want to feel like in a battle, not like in a B series hollywood action movie.

Wow- your scale is waaaaaay to messed up. 1 should be Quake. 2 should be Halo/gears/arcadey run and gun. 3 is call of duty. 3.5 is counterstrike. 4 is Day of defeat. 5 is Battlefield 2. 6 is forgotten hope 2. 7 is Ro2's place. 8,9,10- I've only played Arma 2 in this range, so I can't accurately gauge here.

Arma2 with mods is a 10, not because it's perfect, but because it's better than anything else out there in the realism dept. by far for many reasons.

Vanilla Arma2 is an 8

BF2PR is 6

HOS is 3

CODUO/@2 with mods is 2
Vanilla BF2 is a 2

COD4 et all is a 1

I was hoping HOS would be @5 or 6........ :(

The only other games I've played that even attempt to be realistic in terms of modern combat, or previously modern, is the BF3 beta and ghost recon 2.

BF3 is pretty ridiculous as a game which tries to maintain some semblance of realism, especially when compared to RO2. Ghost recon 2, besides being a pretty awful game, wasn't particularly realistic either. RO2 easily tops the charts for realism in games for me, by miles.

I know it has inconsistencies, but it really is a realistic game (relatively).
