The only way to keep the bolt open on an SKS is to have no rounds in the magazine, you'd have to manually hold the bolt open. I have two SKS's, believe me, I've tried.

I'd suspect that it's currently just using the "empty magazine" animation to top off the weapon for the sake of not having a separate animation for it.

Personally it's one of those things that would be nice to see changed but I understand why if it isn't.

This is also clearly more reason to add a Vz-58 to the game, you can manually enable the bolt hold open on that weapon regardless of how many rounds you lave left(of course it also uses 30 round detachable box magazines but that's not the point)!

I realize that animations may no be final. But this would be completely different animation and not very easy one I guess. The character would have to somehow hold the bolt open with his hand and load it with his other hand. I can't even imagine how it would look like.

The animations aren't final, but this particular reload method was a point of contention anyway. We'll likely drop it. What you don't see in any of those clips is that the SKS already has an alternate reload animation, but we were only using it when the magazine was over half empty. There's a flap on the bottom with a release catch that lets the user dump the remaining rounds, then open the bolt to eject the last round and lock in place for a fresh stripper clip. We'll likely just make that the one that happens for all non-empty reloads.

Y'all have no idea how happy that makes me. One thing I should add is that reloading an SKS via stripper clips is a lot easier than say a mosin, there's little to no friction going in so I'd say that pushing the rounds into the rifle should be pretty quick
