What do you guys think of the following idea (especially those who like the "ambience"):
=>Instead of only true/false on each chatter setting, have true/teammates/self/false.

For a given chatter option (e.g.: Grenade thrown):
true: Anyone can hear it that chatter.
teammates: The chatter can only be heard by teammates.
self: I will hear myself using that chatter, but others won't.
false: This chatter will never be triggered.

Those who enjoy the "ambience" but don't like being revealed to enemies (mostly competitive players), would probably be interested by "self" or "teammates".

I think that's quite a compromise THOR... Anyone who can't see the merit in that to satisfy both "camps" is just argumentative.

Great suggestion.

I suggested this as a compromise but nobody really seemed to care, the team only option would be acceptable to me, it should have always been that way.

Sorry I must have missed your post. I'll try to pay more attention. In which thread did you post it?

Two big problems I'm having here.

1. You argue that your soldier shouting out grenade or reload without your pushing a button is someone taking away your freedom, but forcing the game to play the way you want on a player without any real warning to players who like it.... well that sounds kinda the same.

2. Server side mods kill games. I'm not gonna go into long detail here, but basically when you take a game, you buy it, you enjoy it, and then someone decides to change the game's rules on you but with very little way for you to know which did, what was changed, on any server, and without your choice. You stop playing that game.

Overall..... WHY ISN'T THIS A PLAYER SIDE MOD?!

I understand that some people don't like that their character shouting out their position randomly, but that seems to be a rare issue on my part. I don't think I've ever been given anyone's exact position by their chatter... and they don't need to yell "GRENATE!" for me to know that I threw a grenade at them. That's why I threw it there. This seems more like the Native Voice demands of some player... It needs to be a choice of the individual player, not the servers.

Now mind you, if you're playing this game competitively in a tournament... I understand that you might not want to have the enemy hear your guy say anything at all... You're playing super competitive, and you don't want ANYTHING random. Random is not competitive... it's called gambling. Still, I really don't want to play this game like Counter Strike or Call of Duty all the time. The chatter really helps me enjoy the game, and I don't see why it can't just be a player side decision.

There can better be made a mod to delete the white spots left/right of you when the enemy is left/right of you. Do you understand what i mean.
By the white spots i always know that an enemy is nearby.

You argue [...] taking away your freedom
No. The purpose is to prevent randomly get/give an unfair advantage.

Server side mods kill games.
No. People leaving the game because they don't like one server kill games. You don't like a server? Pick the next one. Don't know the config? Ask about it.

WHY ISN'T THIS A PLAYER SIDE MOD?!
Because it wouldn't be white-listed. A mutator has to be fair across players.

I don't think I've ever been given anyone's exact position by their chatter
You don't need exact position. A few feet to the left or right, that's enough.

Now mind you, if you're playing this game competitively in a tournament... I understand that you might not want to have the enemy hear your guy say anything at all... You're playing super competitive, and you don't want ANYTHING random. Random is not competitive... it's called gambling.
Indeed.

Still, I really don't want to play this game like Counter Strike or Call of Duty all the time.
Neither do I.

The chatter really helps me enjoy the game
So, what do you think about the "self" or "teammates" proposition I made? You wrote a long post but didn't even bother giving feedback about what could possibly give you back the most part of the ambience.

I don't see why it can't just be a player side decision.
I explained why above, but FYI I have something in my TODO list, a button that you can hold to prevent some part of the chatter. It gives a sort of client-side control.

if you want a mutator do delete the peripheral indicators, why don't you start a new thread asking for one?
i don't see how they have anything at all to do with Thors chatter mutator. Shut Up!

Just play on a server with peripheral indicators disabled, it's a configurable server parameter. No mutator required for that.

It`s about be silent so the enemy don`t hear you. But if you have the white
indicators this mod isn`t needed. Don`t you get it??

So, we must have a silent game without white indicators.

ask TWI if they can get rid of them. i think it's a core function of the game and those aren't things we can change. ask them and see what they say. it still doesn't have much to do with the mutator. thor can only do so much.
for the record, i'm all for getting rid of them. it's far to easy to "cheat" with them.

I must be getting old, cos I'm completely missing the link between peripheral indicators and Thor's ShutUp mutator. If you want to discus peripheral indicators, then open a thread for that or even better, look up an existing thread about that. But do NOT hijack this thread.
