Not so often as in ostfront (dat insult), but when I play as squad leader I try to give some orders (by key B, not V), don
Might be hard to judge... some servers might run almost everything on, everything off, partly on, partly off, half-half, specific categories, and so on... You can't just like/hate a server because it has the mutator, it depends on the setup.

ok. i'm confused about one thing though. say a server admin is using the mut. or a combination of settings in it and the player that just joined (like the guys above who don't like the idea) do not have it downloaded. they still hear sounds as usual? or is it just for server admins and we (the regular joes) have no reason to be downloading it in the first place?
You have to download the ShutUp.u file to make your version of the game compatible with the servers,same as any serverside mutator,or you wouldn't be able to join the server.

What the workshop does is allow you download custom maps & mutators ahead of time, by "subscribing" to those items. Otherwise, you just download from the server that you are joining, just like normal, if you don't already have the latest version.
The workshop also allows you to play your own private test server (it's a single player match really, versus bots) and you can use any downloaded maps or mutators in that test run. Launch the game and click on the Workshop menu item to see this.
ShutUp is not a client-side mutator, so if you download it and go to a server that doesn't use it, you wont be able to use it either. But, if you go into a server that does use it, everybody will get the same settings because they're set by the server admin.

thanks guys. looks lke the guys that don't like the mutator are going to have to find out who's using it and who's not. but my guess is that they'll never notic the lack of chatter in the first place. 
Huuh?? Some days back you wrote that this refers only to servers.
and you obviously didn't understand the COMPATABILITY part of my post.
i use them all the time as well. hasn't harmed me either. but there's a reason for that. i don't do it when there's three guys around the corner who want to kill me.Constantly, and it hasn't really harmed me any.
i save the insults for when there's just one guy i want to flush out or when they're in no position to waste me for doing it.my point in asking was, most people who say they want battle chatter, use the taunts and stuff less than those of us who want to get rid of the chatter. i promise to chatter much more when it's appropriate, to make up for my guy not doing it at the wrong time. then you guys will never notice. how's that sound?
LOL! thanks for reminding me about that one! o.k. so you guys that think the game isn't immersive without character yelling, tell me, how immersive is it, to hear a guy in broken english, with a terrible russian accent, saying "damn this gun"? sorry. immersion breaker for me. if you're still immersed afdter that, you've probably drowned and don't realize it.Aaargh!
I like the death moans and screams though, those are pretty cool. The rest can go IMO. I promise to taunt like crazy if it'll help.....
I'd much rather listen to everyone on 3D VOIP, but I know that ain't gonna happen.
p.s. it's not much better hearing my guy whinge in russian (native voices.)

Thanks for clearing that up (ps). Without native voices I would want this mutator too.
If voice commands were keyboard activated like in ROOST I would probably use them, but as long as its mousewheel based I wouldn't wanna waste time on it.
It's difficult and potentially lifethreatening as it is just to issue voice commands orders as SL (I can't count the number of times I've been killed with that thing covering my LOS, just trying to do my job as an SL, or when it didn't disappear fast enough when I spot an enemy on my peripheral).

thank you for agreeing with the whole idea of Thor making this mutator in the first place. yes. shouting out in the heat of combat can get you killed. hitting the "b" key and using the wheel can get you killed. you don't do it because you want to live. Thor made the mutator because he wants to live. why is is that you think our avatars should randomly do things, we wouldn't do by choice?
