Hi,

I was just wondering how feel about server hijacking, i.e. when a clan join a public non-clan server and votekick anyone non-clan off to stop people from joining, or when a clan is in a public non-clan server and votekick people off to make room for clan members. Does anyone else run into this? and does anyone have a solution? besides, for example, not allowing votekicking?

Gotta admit it isnt very tasteful. If clans are going to do that, they should have their own server.

Only thing I can think of is report it to the server admin (some have their e-mail address in the server information box when you click on the server) and inform them of it so they can try and issue a ban. Steam thankfully allows you to look up the steam id of the players you have played with recently so if you send them that with informaiton on what happened you can probably hit them with the ban hammer from the server. :)

I would leave peacefully but sometimes nubs try to kick me out with very unplesant attitudes... the nubs that I encountered, greeted me with saying GTFO KJAY.

So I started to rent the server for myself and my freinds.

Well, how would people feel about server admins sharing lists of hijackers to discourage this practice?

This is why I play in my server, I never kick... and I never let people know I am admin... win win.

Well, Im sure we ALL have done this exact same thing, wether its KF or some other game. I mean, kicked people so your friends could join.

Still, I know its VERY annoying to get kicked by some clan from the server without any warning, if they would just politely ask me to leave because they want their friends to join then sure I would do that, after all theres tons of other servers to play on.

One thing that makes me furious tho, is people who kick other players from the server when theres still plenty of free slots left. This happened sometimes on Wolf:ET, imagine you have a server with 20 slots then a clan with 8ppl joins in and kicks everyone else so they could have the entire server for themselves. Now THATS annoying and unacceptable imo. Its a little different in games where you have only 2-8 slot servers like KF or L4D.

Oh and if a clan like this would invade my OWN server and kick ME when I join up, that would also make me want to murder them all but since I cant do that I will end up banning them instead.

In my clan, we normally join an empty server first. Doesn't matter what map, just that it's got good ping, and it's empty.

We play as we normally do but if a level 0-3 player joins, we tell him what he's doing wrong and suggest that he goes to a lower difficulty. If he doesn't leave, we explain why he should leave. If he doesn't leave, we apologetically votekick.

If someone behaves like a prick, we ask him "What the hell?" and then ask him to leave if he carries on. If he doesn't leave and keeps up his bad behaviour, we just votekick without much discussion.

If we're trying to get 6 players in and someone joins before we can get all 6 players, we tell them that we're planning a clan game and we need the slot he's taking and we ask nicely if he could leave, and we also apologize for wanting him to leave. If he doesn't leave, we ask again, but if he keeps a bad attitude, we just votekick. We may just be lucky, but the one player that's taking that slot just leaves after being asked to leave the first time :D Some rather understanding people, sometimes. :)

why isn't there a no kick mutator that prevents anyone from calling a votekick

You can turn off votekicking as a server admin, that's not the point, you want votekicking on, so that players can votekick griefers, but you have the side effect that people can hijack the server.

I refer to "hijackers" as Professor Chaos and General Disarray.

yep this is all you got to do, just copy/paste their nicks/ids and let admins know, then they can look them up in chat/join logs if they want to deal with it. after that all it takes is copy-paste one click and they're gone forever.

kicks happen, don't take it personal, either ops making room for their buddies, or little kiddie clans trying to own servers that don't belong to them. shutting off voting is like a honeypot for griefers, all they do is harass servers with no voting, since they know they obviously won't be kicked with no admins around. hijack is the lesser of two evils I guess, dumbasses will do stupid things in pubs, when they don't know how to run their own servers, or just for the lulz.

It's happened to me before.

But, I seem to know a bit how trolls work. I've been around them enough, sadly.

I say a few things and most run off apologising or pissing their virtual pants.

Amazing how many people are still scared of the "internet tough guy" act. ;)

I remember playing with a couple of people, i believe it was dextronaut and a buddy of his, when his clan started joining. They then asked some people to leave, which they did. I asked if they wanted me to leave, and they said no. I was happy :)

And on the subject of votekicking, i was playing on Doom2 because that was the map at the time, and some guy tries to weld the rest of the team in the blue room in trader time. I was a lvl6 support at the time and while he was trying to weld us in, i was unwelding and opening the door. This proceded for a while before he decided to try and votekick me for not wanting him to weld us in. (p.s. don't get into a welding battle with a high level support :D)
He was the only person to try and votekick me so i votekicked him back. No one else cared and we got on with the game.

Moral of the story: Some people think that if people don't play according to their rules then they can votekick, this isn't true. :p

This happened to me before. Playing with friends, Some clan member and his buddies show up and kick us all. We rejoined, got on webadmin, rubbed it in their face and then gave them a swift kick to the groin. Just because anyone can be an douche because of the nature of the internet doesn't mean you have to be one too.
