Yeah, it seems it's spiking my router as well. When I hit refresh everything internet related on our network goes to a crawl for about 15 seconds. This is the router we have.

It honestly wouldn't bother me too much except my father also plays online games regularly (MMOs, mostly) and it will sometimes disconnect him from the server he is on and will always lag him out.

It's not faulty, it's just terrible. I should know, we have FIOS and Verizon gave us such a lemon. The problem is that the NAT table gets overloaded due to not having enough space allocated to it.

Well I am not trying to run a 50 node Beowulf cluster of it, do I?

Just query server list.
Something every multiplayer so far somehow managed to do... with my terrible Thomson.

Thanks for the insight though.

Many people have this issue with Steam games with lots of servers, especially Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2. I suspect it's something to do with the way the server list packets are sent but the fact remains.

I'll let you explain how it could possibly only be on my end if I have over 250+ multiplayer PC games and I don't have this problem with a single one.

It's the way the game requests server info from steam. The game says "give me the servers" and steam obliges. On crappy routers, there is a rule that will then shut down the connection when it gets a flood of packets on that specific port or ports. There's a chance no other game uses those ports. ;)

Only that this is not true.

We get the initial flood of servers from steam, np. It's when the client starts querying those servers for pings that it locks me out.

Maybe you should ask them friendly people at steam for help as their software happens to work.

Actually Steam server browser works flawlessly with RO2,

and using it is the least inconvenient way ATM for us with crappy routers to query/connect to RO2 servers.

I just tried out my buddy's Dlink DGL-4500 $200 Router, and the exact same thing happened.

So instead of editing my last post (which is not yet "moderated"), I need to double post.

Anyways here you go, a piece of logs from my router.

Code:
## | Time | Source | Destination | Message

So yes, it is our routers that cause the block. (****ty routers if you wish)
By disabling the router firewall things don't get blocked and the server list shows, yes.

However, even if I do get the list to show, what I end up with is a list of 400+ pings on every server as the game has successfully flooded my tiny 1/

Look for a "Maximum Ports" setting in your router control panel. You want to turn that up to at least ~1500 or so, but if you have a decent router it probably has more than enough RAM to support whatever the max is for that firmware.

No settign like that in my router settigns. :/

Having this same problem. I don't see how you can blame our routers when this is the only game giving us this issue. Even if it is due to our routers not being able to handle the load, like that other poster is saying it is your obligation to make sure that it's not being overloaded to begin with. The way you are just dismissing this problem is pretty pathetic and it's seriously making me start to regret buying this game if that's the stance Tripwire takes towards its customers.

The way Tripwire passed off the wrong release time on Steam was pretty lame too. You guys should have been communicating to get it right, instead of a "Seems like no one got the memo, Steam is posting the wrong time" or whatever it was. If this is the trend, to pass your problems off to some one else, I think you'll find your already small community growing even smaller in the time to come.

I understand there's a lot more to it all then simple fixes (don't expect it to be done overnight, but it sounds like you guys aren't even going to bother because it's "our 'sucky' router's fault") and people make mistakes, but take responsibility and show your customers some respect.

Irritating

I've had the same problem. And only with RO2. It happens either when refreshing serverlist, or when i try to join a server. Internet dies for a few minutes, then starts up again at its own convenience.

Strange that this happens in no other game.

Seems there are a lot of people with connection issues. I'm not buying it's my modem/router, my router works with every other app and game. At this point my only complaint is these connection issues, everything else is good with the game. Since the connection issue keeps me from playing I would consider this one a show stopper... This needs to be on the tripwire priority list.

I'm having the exact same issue. I have tried opening all the required ports and have done everything on this page:

http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item2

Every time I enter the server browser, my internet is disabled. I have a DLink DGL-4300 and play hundreds of online games. This is the only game where I encounter this issue. All firmware is updated and everything works flawless in every other application.

Can someone please help?

I had some issues with TF2 and Killing Floor where it would drop the connection to the server after I had joined. There was a fix on these forums for that problem. I applied the fix, and it worked fine.

http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=38891

However, a different issue ( I think? ) is this one. It happens to me in TF2 (I suppose any valve/steam server browser) and RO2. It fails to find any server, and I notice that I can't even browse the internet while it is busy being flooded.

Teamspeak, IRC and all that still work fine. Just the internet is crapped out when trying to get a server list more often than not.

My router is a Speedtouch / Thomson 716WL.

I also have Verizon FiOS and the router they supplied me does not have this issue.

I'd ask them for a different model; the one I have is a Westell UltraLine Series3 (A90-9100EM15-10).

FYI: I think you can buy this model for fairly cheap on Ebay or something. Take that advice with a grain of salt however as I'm not sure any router will work with any FiOS service, although I think it would as long as you have FiOS. From my understanding the technicians don't do anything special to get the router to work in "YOUR" house. The second the Verizon technician plugged in the router I could access the internet, and I didn't see him "set it up" for my house specifically in any way shape or form.

Calm down, I have the same issue but ranting at developers isn't going to do anything.

I agree some posts could have been worded better(and letting us know if it is clearly going to be fixed in a timely manner or is just on the back burner since there's a work around). But my router IS something like 4 or 5 years old. I still want them to fix this issue since this is the only game I have this problem with and my actual internet connect is fine in both this game and any.

And the server asking for information in a certain way screwing with a few routers shouldn't be a "how dare you say it's our fault." I assume there is nothing fundamentally wrong with how it gains information for the server browser and that the disconnections are being caused by our routers.

I had a similar issue with Battlefield Play4Free, where my ADSL connection would freeze and reset every time I tried to log in. I fixed it by disabling UPnP in my router's config. Maybe give that a try.
