It wasn't standard German (Germany has 16 states and LOTS of different dialects) but it was still German.
You from Germany? I am, and I could tell by listening to the voices where in Germany the actor(s) were/was from. :p

Well, I live at the german-danish border, so I'm actually from a part of Germany where people don't speak with accents. We do have Plattd

What I read in the Steam Forums is that the voices/accents used in the game are options..... meaning you have have them in English with accents or in their native language.

To me, it's not a "Serious" concern.... it's not a concern at all.

Think about it:

If you want realism, then realistically, you would be an actual german or russian who can speak and clearly understand the language as if they were speaking english.... most of us can't and thus, we're like a foreigner fighting amongst a different country's troops, not actually being a natural part of that force & understanding what is being said.

If you don't know what the rest of your team is shouting other than reading text in the bottom left screen, then to me, that takes more out of the immersion than having them speak in your own language.

Someone else mentioned BC2 where the Russians are by default, speaking Russian.... there's no text to read on the screen, so you never really clue into half of the messages & thus, a disadvantage to the fluidity of the gameplay & team work.

If you don't speak those languages and don't understand those languages, where's the logic in having the gameplay with those languages? Realism and Immersion?

Ok.... how real is it to be fighting in an army where you don't understand a single thing anybody is saying to you & have to read text on your screen, further taking you out of the immersion, compared to just hearing a request/command with your ears you can understand and doing it without having to take your eyes off of what you're doing?

I'd prefer to have them in english with accents, so I can understand what people are saying and not have to take my eyes off the action.

You could just quote TWI on that matter you know.

Your commander isn't going to read a book for you, he's given out orders, which are quick and clear.

I'm still of opinion TWI got it wrong on this one, and not leaving any options to alter. Nothing more rewarding then learning something new.

I've been listening to the native languages since the mod days and I still haven't learned much new, and it's not just the commander, but every team mate who will communicate in the game.

I need ammo.
We need help at....

etc..... the communications list in RO1 was massive compared to most other FPS's.

And regardless of how short a command or message is, I still usually have to either look down to read it, or ignore it because I'm too busy to take my eyes off the screen.

And then when you have multiple team mates calling out multiple commands/requests, sorry, but I'd rather hear the voices in my native language so that I can respond quicker and continue to focus on my gameplay.

I'm not playing RO for the sake of learning a new language... besides, what you might learn in RO towards German or Russian, simply won't help you in everyday communication in Russia or Germany.

In Russian Language - "I'M THROWING A GRENADE!!!! SNIPER!!!!"

Yeah.... watch the Russian police take you away real quick to a shallow grave in the forest somewhere. :D

OP has a very good point. Hate to hear English with Russian accent. It just sounds funny. Doesn't exactly fit into this game.
Hopefully the Russian localization will have decent fonts and menus, and I'll be able use the localized version instead. If not - I really hope TWI will add in an option to play with Native voices.

It sounds funny when they have people fake the accent.

If Tripwire got English-speaking Russians and Germans, it will be fine.

Thats what CoH did for the Germans and it sounds awesome.

Imagine playing in the German language on the Russian team.
Germans with Russian accents.
I don't even have a reaction image or a description of the face I would make upon hearing the horrible skewering of both languages in that situation.

It could be worse. Imagine playing in the German language on the German team. Germans with German accents!
But honestly I dont think accents will make any big impact on the atmosphere or the gameplay.

Personaly I prefer without accent and in native language (german or russian). But it's right, during the fight, it's hard to read what your teammates says.
I just hope when I'm a german soldier, I can understand my teammates in english (or french or whatever languages) with accent as it looks to be, but not understand what russians says. And on the other side, when I'm russian, I hope the germans speak in german. We are not supposed to understand what the enemy says...

Of course, this is not applicable to German and Russian players who speak already their native language. ;)

I just learn to know what they're saying. It's not hard to memorize certain phrases so that you know what they mean and german is especially easy if you're a native English speaker since so many words are similar. It's not like being in English will help much anyway. I was playing the Saving Private Ryan town map in Darkest Hour as the Americans and the MGers kept screaming for ammo because they had the perfect spot to keep the germans locked down on the bridge... Almost no one gave them ammo. Hell I was yelling for ammo in voice chat as well and no one gave it to me. So I the AT guy ended up running over to the MGs and resupllying them, getting myself killed, running over and resupplying another one...

Anyway Yosh said it was an option, just like the native class names in RO1.

Could you link to that quote? I'm pretty sure it was said there would be no option at release, but might be added later.

But it's awesome if you are fluent in German, Russian and English :p

As long as it will be added at some point, I'm fine.
I actually prefer hearing the native languages (I'm German ;) ) over some english-german/russian accents (even if they are good)

Last time I checked, they have never said that in these forums. All I've read is that native language for our team might be an option after some post-launch update. Can anyone confirm that the option will be already available on release? :IS2:
