Well, one of the things I noticed when playing other FPS games like CoD or Battlefield is that I can't see my own shadow ): ! This somehow breaks the feelling in game (especialy in the campaing, where i'm supposed to feell as part of the story) making me feell like just like a pair of floating hands or like a ghost with no shadow:eek:. I can see my teamates shadows and shadows of the landscape and buildings perfectly, even how the light sometimes hits and brightens only a part my gun while the rest is dark, and I can see terrain reflecting of my shiny gun(lol); but when I turn around and look at the ground or a wall I don't see my own shadow (and I think that sucks :))! I think this is possible in the game Call of Juarez(you could also see a part of your body (feet) if you look down). I think This detail could be nice and easy to include, what do You ppl think?? :IS2:

It's a good suggestion. Those are the details that give the game a nice reallistic look.

The more pressing question is: If you see your own shadow, will the campaign include an addition 6 weeks of winter!?

But yeah it would be nice, though i think the reason it's often left out comes down to development time and performance, a real-time shadow attached to your own 1'st person view, would look best if you have 3D legs to see in 1'st person view aswell, without that, you'll see a shadow cast by nothing when you look down.

But including legs is not all that easy for various reasons, it does take some time to include, and it does come with a performance hit aswell, as more polygons will be permanently attached to your view.

I've allways enjoyed having legs in the games that featured this, and if HoS where to have it, that'd be just super. But if logistical reasons prevent it, than i can live with that too.

Just having the shadow might be more feasable though, and would be usefull beyond just the visuals, if you are casting a long shadow infront of you, enemies could see your shadow coming around a corner or other cover, and anticipate you comming, and if you can't see you are casting that show, you could easilly be blissfully unaware that this is the case. Or you could be thinking you are well hidden by a corner, only to have your shadow clearly show enemies that someone is crouching there, and not know it. So beeing able to see your own shadow could have gameplay importance beyond just beeing a nice visual effect.

Maybe have it as an option in vid-settings? Just in case some systems might have trouble with it performance wise..

The only time I would find it annoying to not see your own shadow would be when the enemy can see it but not you. Don't think that's something which will occur very often tough.

I fully agree with your suggestion !
It is a good one ! ;)

It may seem not really important, but what Moyako said means everything

I just... had to...
Spoiler!

And yes, I think it's a very good suggestion to be able to see your own shadow.

I agree 100% seeing your shadow should play into how you conceal yourself. If someone else can see it so should your avatar.

How is the game supposed to cast a first person view shadow if there is no first person view "body"?

The assumption is that there would be a first person body. It's something that people have wanted for a while now.

Maybe you could have your third person model as others see it, but turned invisible so only its shadow is visible to you.

Recently Killzone 3 Open Beta was released on the PS Network. I was starting a botmatch to check out the graphics and I was really amazed! I could see my own shadow which differed from model to model. The marksman with his greatcoat had a different one than the standard trooper. And another awesome feature was you could see your own legs and body in first person!

Then I was thinking about the HoS beta and I hope these features are in there too. As its immersive and it is 2011, games can get this done by now.
