I thought we could use a thread where everyone can report the issues they are having with the SDK so that we have one place to look for solution.

SDK problems:
  • Cannot duplicate items with copy/paste or alt+drag
  • Right clicking on a brush doesn't snap to grid

new terrain issue, I have 5 terrain layer with one material assigned which are working perfectly, but if I add a new one it starts doing some funky stuff when I try to paint. On some place it is funky and on others it works normally.

after some research, I found out that you cannot have more than 12 different texture samples between all your terrain material, if you go beyond that limit the rainbow effect happens on your map :)

Yea, that's a hardware limitation in the GPUs as far as I know. Hardware allows 16 different, but four are reserved for heightmap and the layer weightmaps.

Xendance how did you guys overcome this shortcoming? Did you make more elaborate terrain material? Or did you just do with 12 texture in all?

it's a shame that the UDK version used for RO2 doesn't support Landscape, that apparently supports 16 textures samples and has plenty more option to affect the terrain.

Thanks for this, I already read it and used some tricks but I'm really wondering about the performance hit in the game because I noticed that most of the materials for the terrain used by TWI are very simple.

Ask yourself some questions now and then ?

Why use all kind of tricks while the simple approach works fine.
Why use all kind of fancy stuff while it will only be noticed by a few.

Start simple first and later on you can decide which cool fancy stuff you
can add and condsider its cost.

Hey Myopic, sup? I don't see you on steam any more and wanted to speak with you about my stupid problems!

Are you using a lot of grass in your level? I recall seeing a wip screenshot with lot of grass? I need to do something like that as well.

Hey man, I've been busy and this whole level editing thing sorta slipped my mind. I've been messing around with it a lot today so I expect I'll be back on Steam reasonably often - at least until next week when I get busy again! - but if not just email or PM me or something.

Re: grass, yeah, I have loads. Probably too much, since I think it should be visible from across the map, otherwise you can be in the open when you actually think you're hidden, but I'm nowhere near optimising the thing yet. It's just RO2's grass/shrubs on a foliage layer with a custom material so it matches my grass texture.

Yoshiro just posted a fix for the duplicate bug

Yoshiro said:
We've isolated the cause it the issue should be fixed for the next build.

For now to work around the issue remove the line suppress=log from your roengine.ini. You will want to re add it when you play RO 2 or your performance will suffer.

Word of warning from our Level Designers. Don't duplicate and move things around in lit mode unless you like crashing.

Try this;

Go to

C:\Users\yourname\Documents\MyGames\RedOrchestra2\ROGame\Unpublished\CookedPC\Maps

In the Maps directory you will the folder with your mapname.
Probably you will see folders with stockmap names.
Delete them and then start the editor it will work. At least it did for me.

I put my own maps in the "C:\Users\yourname\Documents\MyGames\RedOrchestra2\ ROGame\Unpublished\CookedPC\Maps" folder, I'm working from there because otherwise it can't find the map for publishing it. There are no other folder there but mine :(

Also when I try to publish my map, the commandlet crashes because it tries to save a TWI prop pack because it is apparently been modified by me, I don't know how ? (see screenshot) How can I reset those packages?

If I create a simple map and publish it works fine (still can't see anything when launching RO2 and typing open mymap.roe) at least it loads it fine ;)

EDIT: I can open Spartanovka again by some magic but Prop_Static_Mats and Prop_Vegetation still want to be saved :(
