Accidentally loaded up my old DoD 3.1 install and started crying, so I decided to play through HL and OpFor, and Blue Shift.

Look at the fancy equipment!

I really forgot how good the atmosphere and ambience in HL1 is. From the very first moments it's just so good!
In HL1 it takes 2 shots from a pistol to kill a headcrab - oh and the pistol shoots in a straight line...it's just a winning formula! Why change it?
More pics soon :)

It also has unusual music that still fits the atmosphere.

There is a mod that recreates Unreal 1 in UT2004. It's basically a 1:1 port, but there are a few StaticMeshes from UT2004 in there. Without direct comparison shots it's hard to notice them though.
Unfortunately the new engine can't do those semi-reflecting floors Unreal 1 had in some places, and the work-around in the mod looks weird at best. Other than that it's pretty good. For those who don't have Unreal 1 it's a good alternative.

Wasn't the reflection effect achieved by mirroring the room upside down and putting a semi transparent floor texture in between them?

Try to get familiar with the UT3 tools for a while now. So made different
envirements and try to play with light, particles and decals.

Here some screens. Now all i need is a decent game which use the engine
as i hate to shoot aliens and other weird things....

Those maps looks great.
Kind of UnrealEngine 2.0/2.5-ish except for the shaders. I wish the acceptance for "last-gen" looks would grow again because it really doesn't look bad at all (on the contrary) and it takes a huge weight off a modder's back if he doesn't have to go for a cluttered "next-gen" look. For example: Do the HOLP maps for UT3 look bad? I don't think so!

Tbh, I never opened the original Unreal 1 maps in the editor, but I'm pretty sure the old engine could do that by simply checking a box in the surface properties. The new engine has a "mirror" option, but I don't recommend using it.
In the Unreal 1 mod for UT2004 it looks suspiciously like your method was used, but I think the creator wrote something about warpzones or something similar. Had he simply physically mirrored the rooms below them as you suggested, with just the semi-translucent floor between the two clones it might have looked better. As it is there is a bit of stuff popping up and dissapearing in the "reflection".
Again, this is just speculation as I haven't opened any of those levels in the Ed.
