Hello. I've had RO for a long time but a while back my computer got messed up so I lost games that I had installed. I recently got Steam again and installed RO again. But now I am having a problem I never had before.

When I first had RO, when the artillary came at me, the screen kinda went into this funny screen w/ jumbled colors. It kind of looked weird to me, but I was able to get a smoothe transistion back into the regular graphics. Now though, since I have reinstalled the game, when artillary comes close to me, the screen goes totally black. Can't see a thing. Then it just pops back on after a few seconds. It's almost like a light switch in the game flicking on and off. Not only that, but I lose a sense of where I am at and it doesn't give me that nice transistion back into the regular graphics like it used to do.

Also, when someone with a machine gun fires at me, my screen goes blank too. Basicly it is like a light switch going on and off again but very rapidly. Because of this, I can't even get a chance to defend myself and aim at the guy shooting at me. This problem if preventing me from even being able to defend myself in the game.

The only different thing I really have done graphics wise is increase the resolution, but I don't think that could be it? I still have the same specs I played with before I had this blackscreen problem too. Other than this problem everything else is working fine. Textures look great and haven't had any lag problems.

Could someone give me a suggestion on how to fix this problem?

This is what happens when the game is set to d3d mode instead of d3d9. In d3d mode the game uses a dark out function. In d3d9 this function is isntead a blur function.

Yes a blur function is possible in d3d but it was decided not to use it as it caused a huge performance hit, so isntead the blackout function is their instead.

If you have a good video card, switch to d3d9 mode, if you don't, you'll have to live with d3d mode.

Well in my options window on the game it says by "Rendering Device" Direct 3D 9.0. I assume that is what you were referring too. So I have been playing in that, but I still got the blackout. What else can I do? I have everything checked off in those boxes under advaced options.

Sounds like your config files might be screwed up. Try delete your RO/system folder (just the system folder), verify cache in steam, and try to launch again and see if the problem persists.

I copied the system folder to my desktop and deleted the system folder in the RO Folder. I then varified the cache and launched the game again when it finished updating. Still had the same problem. I went back and checked the RO folder and the system folder is there again too.

I mean I have motion blur enabled and have my render set the Direct 3D 9.0. I'm not sure what is up :/

On my Display adaptors it says:

Diamond S85 128MB DDR Radeon 9250 PCI

I installed it a while back. It was made by ATI. I played RO on the same video card the first time I installed it too. Never had the black screen problem. It just started to happen when I reinstalled it.
