In the old RO I knew the maps & spots to go where my scoped rifle was able to operate
outside the visual range of non scoped rifles , I would set up in such a way that if they had an idea where I was I would likely be able to see them coming,..
In RO2 of course i dont know the maps as well but , it seems there is no distance away i can go where an unscoped rifle cannot easily see me ? Is it me or is there spots that can achieve this?

I know what you mean. Especially since everyone's first shot is 100 accurate AND everyone has cybernetic 3x zoom eyes (That ALMOST amount to the zoom you get WITH a scope.

There's basically no use for a sniper on apartments, but in other maps, I find this general rule to work pretty well:

1. everyone knows where the spawns are so they will look there.
2. 90% of foot traffic is DIRECTLY between the spawns and the objectives

Knowing this I set up in a place as far to the side of an area (where I can't directly observe the spawn... or any places where they might fire back at me) so I can clearly see the area in between the objective and the spawn. This allows me to only engage in combat with troops who are
1-not looking in my direction when I open fire
2-usually running in the open from point A to B
3-Dead before they know what's hit them.

That's just my 2 cents. Anyone got anything better? (I didn't describe any specific spots for a reason :D)

I'm using you're tactic as well, BUT I'd add 4-shoot only when you're sure you'll hit!

Nothing is more annoying than a luckboy, who dodges your first shot, see's you and shoot you with a plane simple bolt action rifle on a distance of 175m+

Just remember that the mosin iron sight isn't too bad. I often scan around with that and only switch to the scope if I see something juicy at range. The k98 iron sight on the other hand, is awful.

Use shift to zoom outside of scope/ads. When you see a target bring up ADS. You maintain your zoom but amplify your field of view.

People you are forgetting that many maps in RO2 are not big enough (like Arad, or dedicated infantry maps in old RO), that's the first point.
Second, scope lags and is all but usless as it is due to a completely fake distortion effect they have now.
Third, scopes give only one advantage - target distinction. At 200m and more, which rarely happens on the maps we have now in RO2, when say you need to kill a well hidden MG or other sniper, because without scope you could not distinguish him from the surroundings at that distance.
Last but not least, for ALL maps we have today rifles are more than good enough. I snipe and get sniped at from 100-150m.

But besides very well hidden players, other snipers and MGs, I don't see a point in using sniper class at all.
My tactics are very simple in this regard - observe most common positions, where people hide or shoot from. Know all of them, have several targeted positions and switch back and fourth (keeps you partially protected, and makes for more fun shoot). Elevation is always a bonus, typical example is Grain Elevator map. Play for red team, run up the elevator as soon as map starts to the 4'th or 5'th floor, and you'll have axis spawn and all ground except inside buildings covered from there, from a nice wide field of view.
Right there, semi-auto rifle is absolutely best.
RO2 maps now are really for marksmanship, not for sniping like some dedicated RO maps where 800m++ kills are possible.

I have allready ca 610 sniper kills in RO2, out of 1130 I might add :D
The number of sniper kills in RO1 and DH is hard to imagine but I've played the role pretty much 90% for years.

I'm not enjoying the sniper role as much as before, the zoom view makes everyone a sniper.
And that stupid "killed from location" ruins the role completly, so its hardcore only for me.

I miss getting that little tingle when you drop a guy at full sprint from the other side of the map or the a tank cmd at full speed.

Can't wait for the bigger maps to come.

Upcoming maps need to be much bigger then the current ones for snipers to be effective.
I never pick sniper myself but if I find one and always realize that, in the majority of the current maps, the rifle is superior becuase of the short distances and the zoom.

Part of the problem is that there are few high spots that overlook the map, which would be useful for sniping. And the maps are shorter.

I've never seen a sniper go on a spree in RO2 and cause problems that can only be answered by counter-sniping.

The maps are too small in order to apply real sniper tactics.

In the orginal RO I applied 'real' sniper tactics, which meant that I overlooking the hotspots from a location far away, taking out high priority targets such as anti-tank personell, other snipers, and secondly normal infantry. I also changed the position from time to time to avoid detection. In HOS I rather use bolt than sniper rifles. They simply don't fulfill their point on most maps.

Damn, I miss those days.

EDIT: I've also had issues to use the anti-tank class simply because I can't find a spot where it's not crowded with enemies.
