You can put a bayonet on a k98.. so you can still put one on a k98 with a scope on it. CQC sniper protection basically if you can't switch to pistol in time.

Why wouldn't you be able to attach a bayo to the weapon when it has a scope on it?

Its possible, and there for the same reason you have a pistol.... close quarters.

As if the sniper will own now because he can stab people.
When the sniper uses his bayo, I think you need someone else on the spot...

So why not?

Just because you can does not ultimately mean you should.

As it was clearly stated in other posts: scope + bayonet = purpose failed.

A modern variant would be an underbarrel grenadelauncher on the M40A3 or M24SWS.

The only difference: modern weapons would not suffer a POI shift (free floating barrel, stiff carbonfibre/aluminium reinforced stocks)

yeaaa...if they only, in this "13-years-old-kansas-kid cool & friendly" unlocking frenzy & madness, would be so kind to make bayonets detachable like in good old RO1... +10 to immersion.

I see no problem here. I don't really care even if they gave the sniper an ability to mount a modern warfare 2 granade launcher. It's the single most useless class in this game. For me at least. It's not even that fun to play. I feel like I'm doing nothing for my team. Sure I pick some people off. But in order to do that you have to stay well back which means you will get 0 team points for killing people and you certainly wont participate in capturing objectives. I find that too demotivating. I get 10/20 times more points with a standard Kar98.

Yes it is possible to put a bayonet on a K98 Scoped in real life But No Sniper in WW2 would in their right mind put it on. It would make his shoots more inaccurate and it's a huge metal thing that will shine.

Real snipers didn't even get close enough to use a bayonet. German snipers were so scared of getting captured because if the Russians knew that they were snipers, they would be executed.

I doubt any sniper would have had a bayonet on the sniper rifle! I mean firstly there is the weight factor, and also what about the light glint giving away a potion.

edit: beaten to it lol

You do get team points if you kill them at an objective!! When I get the chance to use the sniper class, I will always find a spot near an objective. I have been able to pick off enough of the enemy, to allow my team to capture that objective.

As for taking objectives I will sometime run up with the rest of the team, and then stay there while they advance.

As I said earlier, a bayonet is an assault weapon. It is not used in a defensive manner, unless Ivan is running at you. In that case, you can use it as a spear, like the romans did.

But we do not play romans or King Leonidas (however, kicking the enemy over the edge would look fun :D )

So a bayonet only makes sense in a forward assault, running and stabbing.

A sniper with a bayonet barely runs, and if he does, arty or a tank opened up on him.

Let the devs fix the major bugs and see if they made a mistake or are steering RO2 to a more casual "fictional" scenario. In that case, we can vote for suppressors, night sights, MG42, Maus tanks and a Sputnik recon sattelite kill-streak and a V2 artillery fire mission...

I hope this all is a mistake and sooner or later this game will be a Red Orchestra sequal.

Not that I am certain of this but most relatively modern blades Ive seen don't shine. They have some sort of coating on them.

There's lots of realism problems in this game. However the ability to mount a bayonet on a Kar 98 or Mosin Nagant or SVT40 in the Sniper Role is actually a step in the right direction for realism. From what I've read in reliable literature on weapons of the period, they'd merely select the most accurate weapons from factory tests of the standard production rifles and issue them to sharpshooters with the scopes. As such, the equipment for mounting a bayonet should still exist on the weapon. It's similar to their reasoning with leaving the ironsights intact on the weapons, because while a sniper wouldn't always use them, the facility was kept, JUST IN CASE.

However the notion that a sniper would actually keep his bayonet on his weapon in all but the most extreme circumstance....

There is no such thing as "extreme circumstance". What could be more extreme to be a sniper (on either side) in Stalingrad?

ANd in my books about sniper warfare/tactics and stories no sniper ever said anything about using a edged weapon to kill an enemy. Matth
