But that is a completely different matter bswearer. What purpose is there for a TWI employee to say something like that about an estimated release "date" if there is no truth to it? Do you think it was a lie? Why would they lie?

it's not a different matter at all.....it's highlighting the same idea that they may say things that aren't always 100% truthful. whether that be to improve their image, cover up things that might put them in bad light, or simply just to keep us more in the dark so that they can stick to their agenda (should they actually have it planned out), it's not always being completely honest.

take for instance last year around April when somebody linked up the thread in those WWII gun forums where a TW rep was asking for g41 references and was quoted stating that RO2 would "be out next year (2011)".....giving the mods/admins the benefit of the doubt that the deletion of the posts on this forum were deleted "by accident", when community members brought up the info looking for clarification as to whether or not the game would be out in 2010, TW's response was vague and continuously dodged having to give a definitive answer. were we being lied to? in a sense yes because the truth wasn't acknowledged until about a month later.

again it's not to bash TW but just to point out that everything is not always what it seems to be.....even from "official" sources, it's sometimes still best to take statements with a grain of salt. it's quite understandable as it's all part of the business to intentionally withhold information and/or mislead consumers with seemingly "false" information. ;)

iirc, steam says they are taking different tax levels in europe into account. Personally, I think bullcrap. I have yet to see a place in europe where a game costs 75 bucks retail, even at launch. It's probably some lobbyist crap to keep traditional game stores from going out of business. But that's another discussion.
Yeah. I think we should create a thread about this in Offtopic since there are so many European Steam users on these forums.

Back on topic, it is definitely good to see RO2 on that list. Whether it's a decision that was based on new communication between TWI and Steam, or whether it's just based on assumptions by Steam remains to be seen ... I hope for the first case, of course.

You are stating quite obvious stuff bswearer, yet you do not talk about the thing we actually talk about. The comment about the summer. Do YOU think it is a lie? Do YOU think it is a misquote? Do YOU think it is an unintentionally incorrect statement?

But what really matter is, which is irrelevant to if TWI would lie or not. Is this an official statement that overrides the "sometime in 2011" approach they have had earlier.

As I said in the past about a month before someone posted that on the forums Yoshiro had already publicly posted Dion's thread to that gun forum in the RO irc (the same day that the post was made). And even joked with the people in irc to keep it silent to see when people would find out on the forums. If TWI wanted to keep that information hidden they would have deleted that first post as soon they got the information they wanted, by the time other people found out, the threads were effectively already dead and dropping in that forum.

In the place where the first forum members posted their findings, was cleaned and put back on topic at request of the OP, resulting in most posts from the point where the topic went a different direction to be deleted including the discussion about those gun forums.

There is tier1 and a tier2 pricing for Europe, but the chosen prising is up to the publisher not steam. And the publisher often wants to sell more hard copies than steam copies so they do not make the steam release cheaper.

I should point out that I was never suggesting that TWI were being deliberately misleading or disingenuous, simply - as has been pointed out - that various things get said that turn out to be either way off the mark or simply untrue due to design or marketing decisions further down the line; I think the issue of some sort of beta around Christmas 2010 is a good example of this.

Obviously it all depends on how long TWI wish the game to be in the beta development stage. I think we are all generally now aware of the level of content they are happy with for the retail release (ten maps, two tanks, a standard set of infantry weapons, etc.) and it's a probably just a case of whether they consider the game feature complete (ie the mechanisms of combat, the HUD etc.) and how thorough they want the beta process to actually be.

My scepticism for a May/June (as has been floated on here from time to time) or even July/August Summer release date stems from the fact that on several key game aspects TWI have said they have yet to be implemented either fully or at all, suggesting numerous 'gaps' in the product. Clearly TWI should not rush this product as it may well be what defines them as developer for the next five or ten years, but the lack of substantive media or feature previews combined with their wildly off-mark predictions in the past are - to me - indicative that they are perhaps somewhat behind schedule or have had development setbacks or disagreements on one or two major engine decisions.

Also, bear in mind that if development of this game started in 2005 or 2006 (and clearly I know that doesn't mean the current version of the game appeared then) then the time and care TWI have hitherto taken to perfect their flagship title is really not in keeping with an August release date given that we only just into (or are we yet?) a small, closed beta.

I home I'm wrong of course, but when it comes to things like this I find pessimism usually wins the day. :)

It all sounds like a tempest in a teapot to me. Why all the angst over when the game comes out? It'll be here when its done.

Yes this is sadly the case. I prefer to buy on Steam, but for example I was looking at buying Dead Space 2 last week...on Zaavi I could buy it for just under

I believe that TWI doesn't even have a definitive month, quarter or possibly even year as to when the game will be ready for release.....they may have hopes to have it ready "around the end of summer" etc... but they are just continuing the strategy of trying not to commit to any specific time frames so that if they can't make that time, then they won't look bad. while it's a conservative strategy that will pay off in the long run, it's also a strategy that can really frustrate those who've been waiting for a long time and get tired of constantly being given the run-around

You can always look further into things than is reality.

it's quite tempting to do so when "undesired" posted content commonly disappears......apologies to bring it up as an example, but try to search for threads discussing the Helpful Answers modification. you won't find any. all that content disappeared because of certain truths being exposed and opinions shifting in a way which certain people did not appreciate.

conspiracy prevention 101: if you're caught in a lie or looking bad, instead of trying to cover it up with deletion, just accept the consequences and move on.....without transparency there will always be questions.

hehe....i'm just a guy who isn't afraid to call it like it is.:D

anywho, @ release date speculation: until i can preorder and then install the game through the Steam, i will believe that no date is set in stone. ;)

Well you were wrong about the bit regarding the release date, being deleted by TWI. Heck bobdog a non TWI member deleted it at the request of Ralfst3r before he was a mod.

I posted xienens linked in stating what he had worked on for an upcoming twi title, before hardly any info was known. TWI didn't remove that post either.

Searching helpful answers modification gives me some posts made by you:
http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showpost.php?p=697650
http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showpost.php?p=685702

And since most of those threads are pretty hostile threads in a sense, I wouldn't be surprised if other threads could have been cleaned out.

Sure TWI and for the forums primarily the moderating staff is made up of humans that have personal emotions and that will portray from time to time in various things. But TWI knows very well that once information is on the internet you cannot remove it. And simply deleting info won't make information unknown. So even if at times they would perhaps want to make some information unknown, they know that attempts to do that are futile.

So posts won't get removed to conceal certain information (unless its simply inappropriate for the forums), as once its out you won't be able to conceal it.

If beta underway or about to be then august sounds pulsable if were at the beta stage which if post by devs are to be believed ( and there is no reason not too) we are close

If beta go as planned and there is only minor bugs to fix august could well be on.

I think it will be barring an unexpected major bug

Just my thoughts and reading the post by Dev's

I have not read the whole topic but by now RO2 is between Witcher 2 which is released already and Hunted: The Demon's Forge which is set to be released at may 31. I dont think RO2 will be released till may 31. No way.
