Ok I changed all the settings (using the config files it generated) and it reset upon starting, however I tried changing the newly reset ROGame.ini file and it did not reset. (I only changed the punkbuster setting as it is easy to see if it reset or not)

So here is the ROGame.ini with my settings, changed from the generated file.

Could you please see if there are any key settings here that would make it reset the file?

ROGame.ini
Spoiler!

Is it possible that my 'old' config files have become... inadequate (for lack of a better word) for use with the (newer?) server files? I don't recall an update before or after the problem started.
--SNIP--

If the server (RO2) detects that the current config files are corrupted or outdated, then it will replace them. Part of the magic behind that is in the [IniVersion] section of the config files. If the numbers there don't match (with what RO2 expects), then new configs will be created. Marking your files as read-only won't help. It only prevents RO2 from overwriting them, however the copy in memory (and the one used by the server) will still be the new one.

In short when you use a configuration file from an older RO2 server version, then it will get replaced if the version in the ini file doesn't somehow match with what RO2 expects.

Yeah with the Ini Version I changed that to the current version of the ones it was getting replaced with (almost every time), but it didn't change a thing.

Also it seems to be 1 or more settings I change that flags it to reset.

Its really confusing trying to figure out exactly what steps you are taking, what you are doing and what you are trying to do.....:confused:

Are you...

1)downloading into clean EMTPY folders.
2)starting the server before making any ini changes or additions (fyi, it takes an initial start for the server to create the ini's.)
3)stopping the server
4)editing the ini's the server just created to your liking
5)restarting the server.

And are you also aware that the server will overwrite rogame.ini at every mapchange? Most changes made in the webadmin get implemented and written to rogame.ini at mapchange. And also, rogame.ini must be edited/replaced with the server stopped. If you edit it while the server is running, it will be overwritten to what the cvars are currently set to (or changed to in the webadmin).

Thats what I did, but after downloading it a 3rd time I just copied it before I did anything too it, and used that multiple times. (freshly copied ones) I wasn't aware that the ROGame.ini was replaced every map change, but I was aware of everything else though.

What is what you did? See what I'm saying?
Saying, "I copied it before did anything to it..." doesn't say a whole lot. Copied what before you did what? and where? Round and round we go.

You've yet to tell us step by step what you've done to get your server going. Why not start from scratch, write down what you do in the exact order in which you do it. Be very specific and explicit.

The age old computer axiom comes to mind..."Garbage in. Garbage out." ;)

The ini files the server uses are not created until the first time the server is run. You have to stop it, then edit the files. If you were placing copied versions of edited generated ini's from older or different builds into the directory, no wonder you are having problems.

I KNOW!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I copied the freshly downloaded server LIKE I said before, so I wouldn't have to re-download it again and again. BTW "That's what I did" well..... I wonder what he means! *Sarcasm Alert!* OBVIOUSLY what you just said!

It's working now but this is what I WAS doing:

1) Download the server into a NEW folder
2) copy the freshly downloaded server
3) start the server
4) stop the server
5) edit the ini files
6) restart the server
7) delete the craptastic server
8) rename the copied server so it doesnt say "- copy"
9) copy the renamed fresh server so I have a spare
10) rinse & repeat

THIS IS WHAT I SAID JUST IN SIMPLER TERMS!

*EDIT* It's working because I didn't edit it manually, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to edit it manually!
But before (once so I didn't try again) I used the webadmin and it still reset.

What program are you using to edit the ini files?

And if you appreciate the help people are trying to give you, we can do without the sarcasm. We do have better things to do...

Have a Merry Christmas.

Ok it seems after adding all the custom maps to the ROGame.ini it wants to reset again... *sigh* was hoping to have this going today. *NOTE* I didn't change anything except for adding the maps.

In order to not mess with the ROGAME.ini for adding custom map, you can create ONE ini file per custom map in your config folder. This way, you will not touch your ROGAME.ini, and these "per custom map ini" can be stored or transfered to another server.

To do that, copy the exact filename of a custom map, and add the info into a file named "exactmapfilename".ini

Example for map TE-DieBresche_v5.upk :

Create file TE-DieBresche_v5.ini in your config folder

TE-DieBresche_v5.ini said:
[TE-DieBresche_v5 ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo]
MapName=TE-DieBresche_v5
FriendlyName=Die Bresche V5
GameType=ROGame.ROGameInfoTerritories
PreviewImageMarkup=
Description=
LoadMapMovie=
MapTips=
MapTips=
MapType16=ROMT_Infantryonly
MapType32=ROMT_Infantryonly
MapType64=ROMT_Infantryonly

[TE-DieBresche_v5 ROUIDataProvider_WorldInfo]
MapName=TE-DieBresche_v5
Friendly=Die Bresche V5
PreviewImageMarkup=
Description=

That's all the same for all TE custom maps..

For your ROGame.ini resetting, maybe you save the file in bad encoding? or maybe you have errors in it so it resets by itself? By the way you may know that but NEVER EDIT INI FILES WHEN SERVER IS RUNNING. Did you try another file editor like NotePad++ or notepad.?
