Hey, I found new preview of Heroes Of Stalingrad at one of the polish game websites.

http://www.gamikaze.pl/Specjaly/Rzut_Okiem_-_Red_Orchestra_2_Heroes_of_Stalingrad.aspx?sub=0

google translation:
http://translate.google.pl/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=pl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamikaze.pl%2FSpecjaly%2FRzut_Okiem_-_Red_Orchestra_2_Heroes_of_Stalingrad.aspx%3Fsub%3D0

What's most interesting:
- rank system
- Hero levels allow to unlock new weapons
- game mechanic is combination of realism, tactical warfare, "authentic dynamic" and morale system
- fpp cover system
- Countdown game mode has "key" objectives, something like checkpoints which allows to attack again if team fails
- destruction system (but not that good like in BC2 game)
- high and brutal gore level
- dynamic music and each side has his own tracks

What are negative opinions about HoS:
- poor player animations and graphic
- collision system
- dumb bots

release date Q2, 2011

ps. author compared RO2 gameplay to MAG game from PS3. Also He added at the end "it would be big disappointing if after that what I have seen RO2 wouldn't be released on Sony PS3 and XBOX". Why console fanboy had to wrote that preview?

collision system as a negative?

but it is interesting to see that there are a fair number of people who want HoS ported to console as they're tired from all the cod crap

I get so tired of reading print where the author starts off again by talking about the over-saturated/overdone WW2 genre (like how about some original creative thought yourself dear journalist).

Bad graphics? I honestly don't understand why a lot of people say the graphics are bad, even with shakycam footage the latest footage to be seen shown amazing graphics.

I think people expect the battle Stalingrad to be filled with unicorns and rainbows and be all colourful, they forget that it was a bleak battle, both in humanity and in the landscape around it.

Exactly, its not WW2's fault that developers are stupid and uncreative.

The funny thing, is that the statement is false

The market is not saturated with ww2 shooters, actually there is none at the moment. The last one I think, was CoD:WaW and it came out in 2008, which is 3 years before RO2.

There are like 4 or 5 modern warfare fps in the market at the same time, and no, that genre is not saturated, right? **** you :IS2:

Of course it is. It makes for an easy byline, or a jazzy article intro, but the fact is most of the FPS games being made now are scifi/fantasy shooters. They're based on "secret ops", "what-ifs", "improbable/fantastical scenarios", and above all unverifiable history, much less any fact. Those that do deal with recent history, usually from an "classified operatives" perspective can and do create backlash from the current troops involved in the conflict, or from their families for being insensitive.

For TWI sake, they're positiioned well (again), to win both on the subject matter, and how authentically it'll be presented (for those who might care about these things). ;)

The modern warfare genre is soooooooooooo overdone, I don't mind if a game in unrealistic as long as its good, they're just generic shooters that are "groundbreaking" and "revolutionary" because you can level up and customize things.

Those modern warfare shooters can go :IS2: themselves.

Probably between tits.
^ Settings do not make a genre watered out, it's the execution that does. I'm sick to my stomach of half-assed arcade first-person shooters - but give me something realistic like RO or Infiltration, and I'll buy it in a second. RO's attention to detail in a modern setting? *splurge*.

This.

I'm so ****ing tired of reading this. Even if it was true (it's not) how many ****ing times can you say it? It's like its protocol now to mention how many WW2 games there are whenever a WWII game article is written. It's pretty much a disclaimer that you're article will be worthless.

Hell, even if the market was filled with WW2 games at this particular moment, one has to wonder how many of those WW2 games are really well done, authentic and realistic? RO2 still would have a lot to offer, market saturation or not it is a unique WW2 game, therefor this commonly used comment really is false.

YES exactly. People really ARE morons, and it's ironic that they like to put games into the same category even if they are completely different -- even if they WANT them to be different ... it's a very interesting issue.

For instance, if any FPS takes place in WWII, it's automatically lumped in with every WWII shooter ever made. And yet those same people would admit that out of that huge pile of games, only a few here or there were actually GOOD.

So, as you said, it's not really about the setting but about the execution. Most WWII FPS's of yesteryear pretty much did their best at copying the same kind of play-style and basically all delivered the same experience. Unfortunately, it's because of this that people have dubbed the WWII setting with the ridiculous label of "overdone."
