Basically these guys are taking the same game design choice as OFP D R/RR and RO2. We all know how making a game for COD and sim/realism gamers turns out - a game that neither group likes.

But not everyone is either staunch realism or run-and-gun, so this does not mean it is doomed to failure. Although i would agree that attitudes seem more polarised than in the past.
The devs here seem clear in what they set out to achieve, and there should be ppl who are happy at with that balance between realism and action.

The problem is when you try to appeal to both extremes with one product - as has been suggested with RO2 - because then your focus is blurred and you miss both targets.
That's not to say this will be a runaway success, how skillfully this is realised is a major factor - i'm just pointing out the difference.

How so? One year ago the forum was open minded people vs hardcore realism arma crowd. Now it's 90% people just playing games and widening their horizon(many users now have a console as well) and having fun vs nazi sig trolls who still complain about RO2 instead of moving on. The extreme vs part isn't there anymore imo.

lol what are you going on about?

I'm conceding that there probably is more polarisation in attitudes to military shooters (your staunch arma/realism types vs your fun loving cod/arcade action types) than say 10 years ago, when just about anyone who with a vague interest in shooting real guns played anything half decent
However my point was that there is probably still a market for a game, if done well, that has a realistic setting but finds a nice balance between the two.

It's not the same thing. RO2 was supposed to be realistic, but we faced some arcade stuff with unlocks and all. We know what to expect with Heroes and Generals and the arcade side of it looks ok. Also the tanks look way cooler than the only 2 aviable of RO2

Also the RTS side of it will be cool and look simple, not like WW2 Online...

precisly. I play arcade shooters like BF and CoD all the time, along side those i play ARMA and Ost Front.

I dont mind playing a run and gun game, IF that is what i want. Now if ARMA3 ends up playing like CoD i'm going to severely depressed.

I dont dislike RO2 because it's arcadey, i dislike it because i was misled to believe that is was going to be a historically accurate team based tactical shooter. If TWI came out several months before release and said, "RO2 is going be targeting the mainstream crowd, and is NOT going to be a hardcore shooter" i would probably be okay with it. I'd still buy it because i'd know what to expect (or maybe i wouldn't, at least i'd make an informed decsision).

Same with H&G; i'm going in expecting an semi-arcade shooter and i'm okay with that.

Exactly, with RO2 we were expecting a tactical shooter and more realism and we got an arcade shooter game instead with unlocks and other. Now with H&G, we ARE EXPECTING a semi-realitic shooter with RTS elements so we can't be upset. And if it turns out that there's more realism that what we expected, good then :)
