RO2 for Linux

Well, this is great news indeed!

After all these years finally seeing an UE3 based game coming back Linux is just... awesome!

While i totally gave up hope on this engine a long time ago, there might now be a small hint of light on the horizon for future titles running on UE3. At least i could foresee some more jobs for Icculus in the future, which is great in itself :)

Still wouldn't hold my breath for RO2, though... but u never know. Best bet is not to get excited at all, this way you won't get disappointed in the worst case and happily surprised in the best case :p

cheers,
gitano

The fact TWI has already shown interest in Linux is amazing, and Icculus seems confident that a RO2 port is possible. This means I will have hope. In the mean time, I'm having a lot of run with Killing Floor, but I prefer RO. :p

Any news on this subject?

Nothing really solid but looking at the Linux Steam user's best friend, the SteamDB, there are initial signs of a Linux dedicated server for Rising Storm popping up ( See: http://steamdb.info/app/238690/).

UE3 doesn't even have Linux servers so far so there must be some porting work going on. Seeing how Ryan "Icculus" Gordon is the only one to have ported UE3 to Linux so far and has done all previous TWI Linux ports for servers and clients I went ahead and tweeted him if he had any comments to make about that SteamDB entry ( See: https://twitter.com/DerRidda/status/336177552609669121). That tweet got completely ignored which is abetter sign than some might think.

So TWI, if you have anything to announce early, this could potentially boost your RS pre-order sales a bit among Linux gamers. ( And perhaps Mac if that's in as well) :>

I know it is a little bit of work but we paid for it. And why RS is using older version of U3 engine in the first place?
If I remember correctly they won U2 and U3 licences in one competition so they dont need to pay for them.
I literally boot in windows just to play RO2 and Chivalry.
