Indeed they did.

However it's looking more and more like it is some sort of odd attempt at marketing, just look at how huge this thread has gotten in less than a day. People will get disappointed if/when the beta doesn't show up, but they'll still play it once it's released.

People should take a step back and look at what is being done here, TW said that marketing would explode close to release. We are currently exploding, for free.

So the bottom line is, even if it does blow up in their collective faces and the end consumer gets angry, all publicity is still good publicity.

I'm out of patience ... who the hell releases a game in the middle of the night? (Assuming it's even released tonight.) As far as I'm concerned, assuming it comes out sometime between now & 5:00 a.m., it's actually an August 31st release.

Do you SERIOUSLY think they would have pulled that sort of a move for publicity? It takes a certain kinda evil to torture fans like that, and TWI hasn't sold out to Evil Acts yet....

This is the release of the BETA, not the full game. This is meant to be for play testing. Also, a lot of games are released at night, such as midnight releases.
