I'm sure my sentiments are shared, I just can't get over how refreshing it is to hear a developer who is doing things for the love of gaming. Somewhere along the way games stopped being made by intelligent, creative people who love gaming and started being made by money-hungry business people with no regard for what they were actually producing or the consumers their products attracted.

THANK YOU, in advance, TWI.

I think the dedication to anti-cheat and just about every other innovative implementation that TWI is working on will re-write the fate of FPS in 2011.

Oh Christ, punkbuster :( That ****ty program constantly boots me and causes issues with the Battlefield series. Sigh.

Won't stop me buying the game of course, most anticipated game ever for me.

Please implement a server-side setting that prompts the game to randomly take screenshots of a player's view (client side) and uploads it to the server to give concerned admins a tool to catch cheaters who use wall hacks that aren't "known" by the anti-cheat software.

A download link and intelligible hierarchy for organizing evidence from multiple investigated games would be nice. If that's too much of a hassle - the ability to choose a filename/folder-name where the screenshots will be saved in ftp will be enough.

cheating is bad. :(

Ew, Punkbuster... why?

You have VAC, why bring a god awful program along with it?

The more protection the better. As Putz said, "There are cheats that can get around one, or the other. Rarely both." That makes a great deal of sense.

Further for those who indicate they have trubs with the Steam overlay and PB... make sure you have the latest versions of PB A and PB B ... it makes a difference.

Of course, it can be expected that Tripwire will make certain that total compatibility is a foregone conclusion.

I am so anxious for RO2.... :IS2:

As stated level 1 of PB only takes screenshots that it saves to the server. Using pbbans as server admin you can investigate players.

Neither work perfectly alone, together they could bring more to the table. The more hoops cheaters have to jump through, the better.

Assuming it's like Ostfront, both VAC and PB will be optional on a server I would have thought, so you could just filter out the servers you do not want to play with ...

VAC never detected wallhack for RO - we tested this on purpose on a passworded server. Neither it detected grass and fog, which was turn off in videocard driver setting programm. Punkbuster,on the other hand, detects basic wallhack, aimbots ( which are used by 80% of cheaters) and definately changes of ingame resources ( grass, fog, textures)

I'm glad TW seems to do something against cheaters. It really has been a problem for the competition. Even if that wasn't that bad, there were a lot of concerns about this issue.

This will only work sometimes. Most cheaters implement an "Anti-ScreenShot" function within their hacks.

What they do is hook the function that PB uses to force a screenshot and read when it is being used by PB. The moment PB Accesses the function to force a screenshot, the cheaters program(hack) knows and automatically disables all visual hacks for a few seconds, then re-enables them.

So unfortunately, unless the cheater is in-experienced enough to run in PB servers with a hack that does not check for Screenshot captures, its not going to capture the real threats(the experienced hackers that are getting away with by playing in a less Obvious manner).

Well, im glad TWI is committed to providing an experience free of cheaters, but I strongly disapprove of PB. My friend could barely play BF2 because of it, and if it will be aggressively kicking players with "high pings" (100-200) playing from South America will be VERY hard, hell, if not almost impossible to connect to most servers.
I think VAC is enough. Its what PB should be like. You dont even notice its there,it only messes with the ones its made to mess with, the cheaters, not the gamers or the experience. Think about it.

But it isnt as effective in catching cheaters and even when it catches them, it lets them play for weeks or even months with hacks.

Although I am sure VAC is the same way with this, but, I wouldn't go "testing" any cheat on a PB enabled server. You may get your self banned and depending on the cheat, you may get a hardware ban as well. You would need to get a new PC, modem, etc.

If you have cheat files, submit them to us. Where you failed in this equation was not forwarding them to us here at Tripwire Panzerklein.
