From my expierance the bf3 beta is way more polished than RO2 is even now. The only issues I have had are NVIDIAs beta drivers for bf3 didn't work and a problem with my anti virus not letting me connect to games. After I fixed those 2 problems the game has been running flawlessly with really good frame rates on medium high settings with my gtx 240.

BF2142 was the best besides BF1942.

RO2 needs more sway and less run and gun and its perfect, rest gets fixed bug wise. Mods will come in 6 month so...everything is fine

People jumping on others who aren't happy and leaving the game in preference for another aren't helping at all.

You can jump in and give them loads but it doesn't stop the fact that RO2 is in a bad way. Instead of attacking these people they should be listened to especially by TWI. No amount of "go play your kiddie BF3" etc stops the fact that RO2 is in danger of dying a very quick death and you will have no one left to play against.

It's very worrying. By the time the issues are fixed and mutators made you may end up having to be very lucky to find a server with people on. We can't even bank on the old RO players keeping it alive due to he fact a fair few of them (me included) haven't got the RO2 we wanted. Also I have serious doubts it will ever be the game we all expected.

A saying comes to mind and I will quote part of it...

"you can't please all the people all of the time"

This is where TWI made it's first big mistake and the whole design has been based on a please everyone ideal. Doesn't work. Those who love BF3 and CoD will still prefer those games as RO2 doesn't do that sort of thing as good. Those who loved RO aren't happy because it's been to mainstreamified (made up word).

I've also mentioned it has competition very shortly. Not by a mod but a standalone game. Which promises eveything the old RO players wanted and more.

Dice has all that money and tripwire did ten times the job dice did. RO2 is in a completely differant league.

BF3 = Cheap, quick elvis painting done on velvit, being sold in a parking lot in vegas.

RO2 = A painting done by a scruffy, friendly old artist who live in a shack on the beach and has dedicated his life to Art and painting beautifull sea scapes

holy pretentious hipster batman

Well i'm happy to say that RO2 has totally blown me away, it's like a breath of fresh air, i never played the first and although i had been following this game my expectations wasn't that high but i can honestly say that i think i'll end of playing more of RO2 than BF3. Being someone that hates COD but plays BF due to lack of choice i really love the realisim in this game. I'm surprised with some of the negativity i see, i read earlier people complaining about the maps being small, personally i couldn't place any of the maps in that catagory. I can't wait for more maps and until the modding begins.

Well done to Tripwire for their hard work, it's really paid of.

When I pick a game to play, it is for a specific reason. When it comes to FPSs, that falls into two categories - realism, and general play.

As a long time Battlefield fan, I started getting more into the realism aspects of the FPS genre when Project Reality mod was released. Later down the road I came upon RO1. I loved this game for its realism, and the strange ability it had on my gameplay to change from run and gun to watch every little corner and window.

RO1 did this in a few ways, number one would obviously be the weapon accuracy and lethality. Another, which is unfortunately forgotten in RO2 was the length of time it took to get to the battlefield. In RO1 the most ****ty thing to happen was to run all the way to the front line, and instantly die - this caused good players to change their play style into a more realistic one of not wanting to die (a lot more so than in other games).

So I started playing RO1 when I wanted realism, and Battlefield when I wanted all out war (tanks, planes, infantry, naval). However, for some reason - the magic of RO1 is just not in RO2. Don't get me wrong, it is still a fun game, but there are a lot of little things that kill the reason I started playing it.

#1 - Playing maps on a best of three scale - this turns each battle into a game instead of a war.
#2 - [Shift] zoom - terrible all around, all it should do is hold your breath, we don't have bionic vision even in modern times
#3 - Spawning close to the combat - turns it into a run and gun game

Don't get me wrong, there are many things I love about RO2 and will keep me playing, but it just doesn't have the magic anymore.

I was playing the BF3 beta today, and had an experience that I have not had in a while in a FPS. The classic, losing track of time. I got into a map and was so enthralled in the action, that I did not notice I had been playing for two and a half hours. I don't think I have played RO2 for that long in a single setting.

So, I personally will be playing a lot more BF3 than RO2, simply because RO2 has not lived up to the reason I started playing it. Perhaps things will change, but I doubt it.

Thank you Tripwire for producing a niche market game so lovingly and you did make a very fun game, I just think you should have followed more of what you had done in RO1 than what you have done now.

This is a very good post.

It sums up the comsumer reaction to TWI trying to satisfy the arcader and the wargamer, and in so doing, failed at both.

RO2 should have stuck to what made RO great, and enhanced the actual combat instead of making it arcade with the blinking lights, power-ups, and gratuitous ahistorical "features". What could ahve been done with those free resources? Only the modders know.

So I just played BF3...

It's just as buggy as RO2 (beta I might add), flying tanks, lagging vehicles in general, rendering bugs, horrible vehicle balance, helicopters are basically useless as you get shot down immediately by pretty much anything, AA vehicle is super OP, and infantry can deal with everything ot their own anyway.

And people complaining about unlocks in RO2 should try that game, you start with JETS with no weapons other than stupid cannon, you don't even have flares, AA or Air to Ground rockets / bombs. Same with Tanks and other vehicles as well.
Not to mention awful server browser decision...

I really wanted to like it, but so far it's not really a great game, and I like RO2 a lot more, it has far superior gunplay, tanks are so much better and gameplay in general just feels better. Sure it has some issues (BF3 is just as buggy if not more.) , broken stats but I hope that majority of that will be fixed really soon.

Stuff like this will just earn you auto-downvotes regardless of content in the rest of your post (and you don't really have any). Learn why zoom is in the game.

Its in the game because people..err.. consumers like you expect even FPS games to give you unrealistic advatages in route to your scripted win.

Its attitudes like this that make it really easy to see how TWI made a business decision to appease the arcaders. Even though it is the right thing to make a true shooter, the gaming community isn't mature enough to hack it.

The sewers of Leningrad.
If the letters "BF3" or the words "Battlefield 3" are typed it should be an insta-ban:p Seriously though, it just makes people have to tell people to shut up and go away.

I'll give TWI some credit on this one. Atleast RO doesnt load from the browser LOL. I just played BF3 on my PC and it's really more or less a browser based FPS. Going to delete that copy but will keep the XBL one because of my friends.

Though RO2 future is extremely poor I hope they fix the stats so I can log in the game. (I quit because I dont like playing as a lvl 86 hero everything)

You can jump in and give them loads but it doesn't stop the fact that RO2 is in a bad way.

Get stuffed. There is nothing wrong with RO2 that isn't worse in the games they are saying they are going to play because of it. They are drama queens at best, paid viral marketers at worst. Neither are needed here.

Instead of attacking these people they should be listened to especially by TWI.

No they shouldn't. They are 10% of the customer base, if that. I bought THIS game, not RO1. You have RO1 go play it. I don't like unrealistic games, so I will stick with RO2.

No amount of "go play your kiddie BF3" etc stops the fact that RO2 is in danger of dying a very quick death

RO2 will still be going strong when BF4 comes out. Count on it.

and you will have no one left to play against.

Except the people that want to play this game, and are willing to learn how.

Those are my kind of people. I bet there are more of them than you think.

It's very worrying. By the time the issues are fixed and mutators made you may end up having to be very lucky to find a server with people on.

Or you could make your own. If all these people are so worried, they can already make their own server and kick anyone who won't play the way they like. Take some personal responsibility. If people leave its because of people saying BF3 is better, not because RO2 is bad. Reports are that BF3 is buggier than RO2, but people are saying they are going to play that to protest against RO2 being buggy? It's bull****.

I'm more inclined to believe it is a bunch of butthurt losers who thought they were good, realised they aren't, and are trying to hurt the game by convincing everyone to leave. 'If they can't play it, no one can', is their attitude. They are not helping anyone so they are not welcome. Not in my opinion. If they want to extol the virtues of BF3, EA has a forum for that.

We can't even bank on the old RO players keeping it alive due to he fact a fair few of them (me included) haven't got the RO2 we wanted.

That's all right, those of us who didn't bother buying RO1 because it wasn't as realistic as people like you thought, will keep it going without you. BF3 on the other hand will be gone as soon as DICE starts working on BFBC3 or BF4 or....

Also I have serious doubts it will ever be the game we all expected.

It's exactly what I expected and paid for. Just because you suck at it, don't assume everyone else does too.

"you can't please all the people all of the time"

So they chose to please the most people by staying as close to realistic as possible, because after years of them telling potential customers that the customer didn't know what he was talking about, and driving many of them away to more realistic games, TWI actually took the time to verify their assumptions and found out that everything they thought to be true was not.

Ramm-Jaeger even explained how he was totally anti "shift zoom" until they actually got out a pair of callipers and MEASURED the apparent size of men at different ranges and confirmed what people like me had been saying all along.

They tried the weapons and found out they didn't sway, or have anywhere near the recoil they had assumed and had insisted was realistic, they realised that realistic survival is about making it easier for people to run and hide, rather than harder for people to shoot.

They basically realised that all that stuff they had been saying about how RO1 was the most realistic FPS that punished people for not using realistic tactics was wrong, and RO1 was actually punishing people for using realistic tactics and rewarding people for using unrealistic tactics. People like you had been pointing fingers at the "CoD" kiddies, and never noticed yourself in the mirror.

You were every bit the CoD kiddie in that you insisted that a phoney game mechanic that was there simply to protect you from your mistakes, was actually realistic and mocked anyone who tried to tell you otherwise.

Now TWI is doing what you and they claimed to be doing all along, and you lot are throwing a tantrum because the bad men are beating you. It's not fair! It's not fair!!

I've also mentioned it has competition very shortly. Not by a mod but a standalone game. Which promises eveything the old RO players wanted and more.

Oh so it's an unrealistic camp-fest too? Boring. No thanks. I'll keep playing this realistic game. I prefer realistic games.

I'm surprised with some of the negativity i see

Imagine if CoD 6 came out and it was as realistic as RO2. Imagine what all the butthurt fanboys would be saying about how they die too easily and the weapons are too accurate and so on.

You're seeing the exact same thing here. They are a group of people that thought they were good and spent years laughing at CoD kiddies and how unrealistic that game is. They learned to use a very small subset of FPS (or even real soldiering) skills, then thought they were the superior tacticians. When they had their unrealistic protection stripped away, they were left naked and vulnerable and are now crying like little girls.

They are the inverse of CoD kiddies, but they are just as bad.

Well the BF3 beta is out and guess what..Half of it does not work and its littered with game breaking bugs..
But despite Dice making it clear that its a beta..

People expected it to be a complete working game..Sound familiar?

The EA/Dice forums are a seething hotbed of screaming kids, outragous rumours and straight up lies from players wanting to have the things they want added to the game..Sound familiar?

Lots of accusations of betrayal by the Dice Devs and of ignoring the wishes of the community..Sound familiar?

People canceling orders in their droves because the game "does not work"..Sound familiar?

So it would appear that TWI have again lost out to Dice but this time in the unpopularity awards..lol..as Dice are far more unpopular with their community than TWI are with the RO community..lol

Jeesh who'd be a developer...;)

you sir speak the truth. :D

Then why bother making this thread...

Because he sucks at the game and he knows there is no other game he doesn't suck at. So he's going to stay here and complain, in the hope that maybe this game will be changed to make it easier for him.

That's the only logical answer, I can find.
