I know CoD is not BF3, but they are both the "same bed fellows" and both are shoot-em up arcade type FPS.....and boring. Killing 20 -30 enemies without a scratch is fun, no doubt, but that is not where RO2 shines. Maybe it's just me, but it took me a week of constant play to score over 5 kills as I kept getting waxed. Frustrating, but oh so challenging. It just depends on the type of shooter you enjoy and obviously the difficulties and challenges of RO2 are not for you. So, see ya.

I haven't tried BF3, but looking at these death-cam close-ups makes me feel like I'm watching a 10-year-old nerd trolling a webcam. Something about the close-up and how the head is predominant, feeling proportionally bigger than the rest of the body (like it would on a kid). I think it's funny.

Pardon this off-the-cuff and completely unfounded-in-facts comment.

Hang in there man! sounds like me when I first tried ro1

RO is an old school type game in that in the old days games was very challenging and that's what gave games depth and kept us coming back(I'm talking about the 16 bit days). Now a days games are made for the masses so anyone can pick it up and be successful.Like you said for some getting 30 kills without having a scratch can be fun. There is not much to learn when games are this easy and is intended for short term play for players looking for a challenge.

Not just anyone can pick up RO and it takes time to become effective to learn the maps and the weapons. After years of playing ro1 I was still learning certain spots on the map or team tactics to overcome hard objectives. While I'm not bashing BF3 or COD everyone has the right to like their own type of game.I'm just glad we still have a challenging choice in games like RO.

While it will make you curse and rage at times lol determained people just keep coming back with the mindset "I will get better" and in time is rewarding by being very effective. The more you play the better you get and if you find it one day too easy to get 40 kills and be in on every cap/defense.You can always just play a bolt and try for the same score ....that's a even harder challenge.

That's why in time RO with time has some very good/loyal players and take the game serious because they have spent their time in the trenches learning the hard way.

I think this thread has to be the biggest display of idiocy by some of the RO2 supporter in this forums. BF3 is in Beta, RO2 is released and anyway, you cannot compare the 2 shooters, i dont think its a fair comparison for all sorts of reasons. The entire thread should be locked as i cant see an constructive outcome from it, i think this thread contains some much more interesting comments:

I don't get why people have this impression that bf abandoned realism when they went to consoles. Bf was NEVER realistic. The entire appeal of the franchise other than lots of players on big maps has always been it's combination of semi- realism and totally bats,!,t insane action movie elements. (jumping out of a plane only to jump into another in mid air, using jeeps as tank bombs, etc.)

Also, amusingly enough, a lot of the stuff that helps build teamwork in the most in the recent ones are totally unrealistic features. Medics reviving dead people for example. I wouldn't want anything like that in a game like ro, but it works great in a game like bf and DOES actually build teamwork which is very hard to do in a fps. So I don't get why people poop on the recent ones.
Come on, in RO2 you have magical bandages. Every soldier is an expert surgeon who can stop critical bleeding with just bandages, in 2 seconds.... and you say about the medic class being unrealistic? LOL.

Got 99 Bugs..... but a B*tch ain't one :cool::D

99 yawns..... but a B*tch ain't one!

I'll reserve judgement for the full game, but i've player a grand total of 60min on the beta, and i don't wanna play another second. Not my type of game.

After closing down BF3 i loaded up RO2 and had sooo much more fun.

The two games are chalk & cheese.. worlds apart. Diversity is a good thing, and if we all had the same taste in things the world would be very dull.

The map they released on the beta (Metro) along with the rush game mode really is a very poor showcase. Apparently the Caspian border map is more like bf3 play, open spaces combined arms, flag hopping, retarded helo piloting, lone vehicles, all the things youd expect from pubby battlefield ;). I felt the same as you after playing less than an hour of Metro.

Chalk and cheese yes.., and thank TWI for that. I really couldnt handle RO2 been anything like BF3.., except strangely enough the squad system in BF2 was the best ive ever played in any game..., maybe get some inspiration from that TWI?

I agree, both Bf3 & RO2 squad system is far inferior to BF2. At least in RO2 you can switch squads to one a friend is in.. in BF3 the errr squad system is simply non existent, you get placed with total random people with only the choice to leave, with no option to join another squad, very odd. Hopefully it will get over hauled for the full game.

I'm not sure if i'll buy BF3 yet.. if i do it I will certainly not pre-order it, going off the beta map & gameplay. I'll need to get feedback from the full release that the beta is nothing like the full game.

I count RO2 and BF3 as two very different games. They both have their merits and downfalls, and BOTH games should have been delayed at least another month, but RO2 didn't and BF3 won't. You guy should seriously play Caspian Border before condemming BF3 based purely on BETA and a RUSH map, metro sucks and I have no idea why they decided to have that the beta map, but Caspian Border is amazing.

I don't understand the *****ing, at the end of the day you will STILL have the two games to decide from, who cares? You can't have Jets in RO2, but you can't have Germans or WW2 weaponry in BF3 either! I'll still gladly play RO2 for its strong points, just like I will play BF3 for theirs.

Who is telling you that you MUST decide between the two? I've played BF2 & 2142 for years and really enjoyed it. I have not however played BC or BC2's multiplayer so to me it is fresh, new and welcome.

People whining about BF3 on a TWI forum... if you're really that concerned about the development on BF3 (which you must be to spend so much time on this thread) there is a nice lovely thread somewhere on the BF3 forums that allow you to get your point across.

In the meantime I'll play RO2, and when BF3 comes knocking I'll play that as well, because I as a human being have a choice, and I choose them both.

playermodels looking like kids gets more common with each new game released , ro2 is the exception. Maybe becuse they want the game to appeal to kids, becuse they are the majority of buyers, even in a 18+ game.

Well i'm not telling nobody nothing about whether er not they should, shouldn't, do, don't, play, toss, their mother's uncle.

Y'all can do what'cha want.

But as everybody has the right to choose, I have the right to express myself, much like everybody else in here, including the ones getting all'riled up over others doing the same as them.

I didn't read all the way through this thread, but I haven't seen too many people "demanding" and/or "threatening" others to not get BF3.

People are expressing themselves and saying why they prefer one over the other. What people have to say might not be all flowers & rainbows up the arse, too bad.

People come in here to say they like something or they say they hate this game, they hate that game. It ain't new.

Why do people compare both games all the time? How does it relate to the forums?

Both games are popular in their own groups, both are trying to rival one another in the online fps area, and people don't have money to blow on crap or games they may not like. Some people can only pick one or the other for a while, or ever.

Myself?

I was burned on BF2 & BFBC2, both I either hated or just lost interest, I will not give a 3rd chance. Same with CoD.

Though if they do something decent with Day of Defeat eventually, that'd be sweet. The mod had so much potential.

Hm, the only reason I keep on posting "bad" things about BF3 is because, despite what some people, most of the posts it is all about how BF3 is going to CRUSH RO2 and I've not seen any crushing at all. Its not a bad game but... meh... DICE has ****ed it up in several ways you just dont know how until you play it...

The problem is though, that I can name off a ton of things I love about the battlefield franchise as a whole. When one of these things does not appear in a new game, yes, it sucks - but there is still a lot of other great things.

For RO in general, I started playing because of its realism and the challenge of being good. When something happens to kill the immersion, the entire reason for playing RO goes out the window. I am NOT saying its a bad game, I just feel like in an effort to become slightly more main stream TWI has taken the game in a direction many people did not want it to go.

It also seems to me that they are putting a lot of effort into very small aspects of the game - this would be fantastic, if it was economical. You can't tell me that spending 3 months to make ONE tank is worth the payoff. Sure it adds a neat feature, but how much time does the average person spend looking around inside the tank after they did it one time for the wow factor. I would have loved if we could have gotten a variety of tanks instead of just the T-34 and PZR IV if it meant a slightly less detailed interior.

I play an FPS to shoot people, simple fact and if a shooter fails at that like what BF3 does then it fails not matter what else it does. There are a few network deaths in RO2 but its no where near as bad as BF3 in which 1:3 deaths are total WTF deaths...

Not sure why your having those problems, I very rarely get killed and think it was BS.

Then again, I am also averaging a 1.8-2.0 K/D ratio

My grand total of of K/D on battle log is 1.49 but seeing how most of my deaths are due to the running bug (you take an INSANE mount of damage if you are moving allowing SMG to one shot you), I mostly play support who job is to be lit up like a Christmas tree and total bull**** you see on the in the videos. Weapon-wise is going to get boring FAST as the UMP-45 is even more easy mode than the MP40 by a million miles, the semi snipers have ZERO recoil and the F2000 rapes the MBK behind the bike shed as its INSANE good which means everyone is now picking them...
