I don't get why people have this impression that bf abandoned realism when they went to consoles. Bf was NEVER realistic. The entire appeal of the franchise other than lots of players on big maps has always been it's combination of semi- realism and totally bats,!,t insane action movie elements. (jumping out of a plane only to jump into another in mid air, using jeeps as tank bombs, etc.)

Also, amusingly enough, a lot of the stuff that helps build teamwork in the most in the recent ones are totally unrealistic features. Medics reviving dead people for example. I wouldn't want anything like that in a game like ro, but it works great in a game like bf and DOES actually build teamwork which is very hard to do in a fps. So I don't get why people poop on the recent ones.

yep true, but i still hate the fact you cant do it ingame, everyone hates it, i dunno what they are thinking, but oh well, just one of the 100 decisions DICE made that dont make any sense

I Garuntee you what they were thinking is that if they tie a few important game features to their online service, the pirated version of the game will be gimped and thus a lot less appealing.

TripWire,

"I started playing RO shortly after it was added to steam, before that point I had never heard of it. After looking into it, it seemed like a promising game and gave it a shot. I loved it - it was very different than the other games I had been used to, Such as Battlefield (I loved project reality).

I started playing RO2 in the beta, and although there were some minor irritations - all together it played nicely.

As a full released game, I am serious when I say Thank You. At least for myself, the game runs smooth with only minor bugs that I can get over. The overall experience is unlike any other game on the market right now.

You are being plagued with people who are two short sited to see over minor bugs that will be fixed in time. In my opinion, let these people be mad - if they do not like a game because of little bugs, they will never be happy.

Thank you for making a niche game that you knew from the beginning would not ever draw the massed of games like Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Crysis, or [that other FPS on console]."

It was never realistic, but they did abandon something: depth and a high skill ceiling.

Indeed, minor bugs.

To bad major bugs have not been fixed which I had assumed would be fixed in quick order. I had also not realized how irritating the close spawns were in some maps that enable enemies to rake the spawn exits or kill people inside the spawns outright.

My other opinions do still stand, I think RO2 is a good game with some unfortunately bad bugs that have not been fixed which I had assumed would.

Creating a flawed explanation for something doesn't change the fact that it's still flawed. By *it* I'm referring to this high level of ironsight zoom in general.

Irregardless of whether or not TW thinks its a realistic feature, it's clearly detrimental to gameplay and teamwork in these congested urban maps.

Every player being too accurate is not a bug.
There being no firefights in this game...is not a bug

Only thing i like about bf3 is the ability to remove the scopes off the sniper rifles, reminds me of the good old bolt action rifles, but then its not that much fun.

It may be that i hate the metro map, if we could play some big true bf map my opinion of the game would change.

This.

Bf3 is a joke compared to bf2 . same as bc2, easy as hell to completly dominate those casuals on 98% of the bf3 servers

All that and they couldn't even figure out how to include mouse binds.
They have a full month to fix these minor issues ; however, they are ready for the release as there are no game breaking bugs. The game runs well and is very clear and cohesive in what it's trying to do. RO2 did not fit these parameters at beta and in fact still doesn't.

When I pick a game to play, it is for a specific reason. When it comes to FPSs, that falls into two categories - realism, and general play.

As a long time Battlefield fan, I started getting more into the realism aspects of the FPS genre when Project Reality mod was released. Later down the road I came upon RO1. I loved this game for its realism, and the strange ability it had on my gameplay to change from run and gun to watch every little corner and window.

RO1 did this in a few ways, number one would obviously be the weapon accuracy and lethality. Another, which is unfortunately forgotten in RO2 was the length of time it took to get to the battlefield. In RO1 the most ****ty thing to happen was to run all the way to the front line, and instantly die - this caused good players to change their play style into a more realistic one of not wanting to die (a lot more so than in other games).

So I started playing RO1 when I wanted realism, and Battlefield when I wanted all out war (tanks, planes, infantry, naval). However, for some reason - the magic of RO1 is just not in RO2. Don't get me wrong, it is still a fun game, but there are a lot of little things that kill the reason I started playing it.

#1 - Playing maps on a best of three scale - this turns each battle into a game instead of a war.
#2 - [Shift] zoom - terrible all around, all it should do is hold your breath, we don't have bionic vision even in modern times
#3 - Spawning close to the combat - turns it into a run and gun game

Don't get me wrong, there are many things I love about RO2 and will keep me playing, but it just doesn't have the magic anymore.

I was playing the BF3 beta today, and had an experience that I have not had in a while in a FPS. The classic, losing track of time. I got into a map and was so enthralled in the action, that I did not notice I had been playing for two and a half hours. I don't think I have played RO2 for that long in a single setting.

So, I personally will be playing a lot more BF3 than RO2, simply because RO2 has not lived up to the reason I started playing it. Perhaps things will change, but I doubt it.

Thank you Tripwire for producing a niche market game so lovingly and you did make a very fun game, I just think you should have followed more of what you had done in RO1 than what you have done now.

Completely agree with you mate.

BF3 beta has blown me away, yeah it has its Battlfield-esque moments but its a huge improvement over previous efforts. DICE could make the perfect game but the forum tards here would still find something wrong with it.
