17. True, BF3 has an amazing dev team pumping out maps and extra content - a lot will be free. And the dev's have not 100% shut out the idea of a modding tool, but it is unlikely.

Factors why BF3 is superior to RO2:

1. Better graphics, I don't care what basheres say, it looks much better. Just because RO2 is a WWII FPS does not mean every battle has to be in overcast conditions with a brown or grey hue.
2. Better optimization, I can play BF3 on High with 50-60 FPS while RO2 on high with 20-30 FPS
3. An in-house engine so they have 100% control of what they can do
4. Destructible environment so you can get to enemies hiding in buildings without having to go up that one stair case.
5. Better lighting effects - sniper rifle scopes glint in the sun, and although not applicable to RO2 lasers show when being aimed at, flash lights blind in dark conditions.
6. Vehicles - 26 individual vehicles from air, ground, and some water. So they are not as skillfully designed as the ones in RO2, at least it doesn't take 3 months to make one vehicle...
7. Bigger maps, don't even mention operation metro, this is a tiny rush map
8. Stats that work
9. Better networking services that give clans and groups of friends easier access to play together and track their stats
10. Much better movement, you can vault over walls and through windows while moving, you don't have to run up, stop, carefully climb over, then continue
11. Using their own service, so patches can be made available much faster.
12. Attachments are optional, not permanent.

At least I am not relying on mods to make BF3 a better more enjoyable game...

I will continue to play both games for what they each offer, since the benefits of BF3 cant be found in RO2 and the benefits of RO2 cant be found in BF3.

My ***.

Nope, RO2 is pushing more polygons has more detail just less bloom to make it super shiny so you can see everything. Plus the battle of Stalingrad was in the Russian Fall and Winter. It's going to be gloomy.

So there can't be any mods or player designed maps?

Yea man RO2 has that too just stock maps have there buildings already blown up, wait for new maps designed by players and TW. (Dr Guppy and the return of LENINGRAD!!!)

BF3 lacks 3D scopes. And a 4x scope on a 12 gauge? Have fun with a cracked skull and a black eye.

RO1's stock maps were small, added maps were much bigger, plus DH, huge maps. And community made maps that BF3 can't have.

Don't you mean $15 DLC packs?

1: IIRC RO:2's Graphic texture had to be TONED DOWN, because the amount of detail was to much for most computers to handle. Meanwhile there are pictures popping up everywhere in the red orchestra forums of places where the BF3 team got lazy and put piss poor meshes into BF3

2: I'll give you this one, but I must say that the RO team is small and can't cater to everyones computer and is currently working on better optimization for all.

3: You say that like EA/Dice having 100% control is a good thing

4: RO does Have destructible environments, it's just different to BF3's.... Wait... What that? No Destruction is featured in BF3 Beta? Looks like their trying to cover up something....

5: And by lighting effects you mean "OH GOD MY EYES!!! There is so much bloom it's not funny!" Mind you ever since BC series, DICE has been using bloom to cover up its piss poor textures

6: Vehicles ARE in RO and are one of the most detailed and realistic I've ever seen. Vehicles in BF haven't changed since 1942, and shouldn't even be a bragging point of BF anymore

7: HAHA oxymoron!

8: Same as no.2

9: You joking right? BF doesn't even have a ****ing server browser, how the **** are they gonna arrange clan matches and private servers

10:Naw you just mange to jump 7 feet in the air. I also realize that BF3 STILL hasn't changed that stupid collation against wall and STILL thinks people shoot bullets from the top of your head. RO is DELIBERATELY supposed to stop you in your tracks with a wall, TWI wanted realistic movements, so they put in realistic movements.

11: It took two years to patch BC2, before there were 4 paid map packs, skin DLCs that came out, at least RO works on patches before paid DLC

12: HORRAH MORE GUN P0RNZ!!! just what we needed!!! 6x Shotguns!! **** YEA

Also: At least RO has mods

If you have actually played the BF3 beta on the final stage of the map, you will see how the destruction works. Its amazing to shoot and RPG into the side of a tall building and watching maybe 15-20ft diameter section of wall fall and kill anyone bellow it.

The destruction in RO can not even compare to that of BF3, it just cant.

Just search for scoped shotguns, they exist - http://vtsupply.com/utg-remington-870-shotgun-tactical-scope-mount-mnt-rm870a.html

Free DLC - http://bf3blog.com/2011/09/dice-battlefield-gamers-suspicous-over-free-dlc/

It is not realistic that when you are running to a wall and need to get over it you cant vault yourself over it. You have to stop and slowly go over it, allowing plenty of time to be shot.

BF3 does have a server browser with private servers, the vast majority of servers are private. The clan I am in is getting 9 64 player servers.

Yea, great, the vehicles in RO2 are amazingly detailed - to bad it takes them 3 MONTHS to make ONE, I wonder how mod teams are going to do making vehicles...

When RO2 came out, I have to admit that I too did feel that the realism did get in the way and it was not an easy play as was RO1. HOWEVER, I set as a personal challenge to concentrate on one map instead of getting lost in every single map I played and getting hosed on everyone to boot. I liked the original Grain Elevator in RO1 so I concentrated on Grain Elevator here. After much practice and getting my a*s wiped many times, I feel I have the map down and the enjoyment factor is way over RO1 now. It is a steeper learning curve and it's easy to get discouraged, but the game, with all the new upgrades, plays flawless for me and is very enjoyable. It certainly is not an arcade "shoot-em up" as are some other FFS. If that is what you enjoy, you are at the wrong forum. Allow others to enjoy what we obviously do and either start practicing and stop whining or find a forum at EA. Just my two cents.

I played the beta (its ope, you can all go play it), and i actually rather enjoyed it.

It's buggy as s***, but im hoping they'll fix the bugs before it comes out in a month.

The Operation Metro map kind of sucks but Caspian Sea feels like an all out war, something RO2 does not feel like (interestingly its predecessor simulated that rather well).

The reason it's fun is because it fulfills exactly what it has set out to do; a casual, tactical arcade shooter. RO2 on the other hand doesnt know what it wants to do or who to appeal to, which i feel is partly responsible for the declining player count.

Am i gonna pay $60 for BF3? f*** no. $50? Maybe? less than $40? definitely!

Not gonna preorder either, unless i can find it for less than $30

You already assumed two things, #1 I only like what you call arcade shooters, and #2 that I am a bad player.

I do very well in RO2, typically in the top 5 on my team if not higher on any given map.

I do enjoy RO2 for its realism, but the original point of this post was that many of the reasons I enjoyed and could melt away into the gameplay of RO1 have been taken away to appeal more to the arcade shooters.

I don't care what excuse you give for having the shift zoom, RO1 didn't use it, no battlefield used it, and to my knowledge no CoD used it. It is unrealistic and unneeded. I find myself holding shift the entire time to have super vision, might as well make it standard.

and you just joined the forum in Aug., 2011 and you complain......please:(

Because join date is when you actually started playing RO1 and RO2 right?

I don't want to derail or anything but it's getting tired of using that you join later than me therefore your opinion is invalid. It's not just directed at you but everyone who use that as an argument.

Learn some human anatomy. I did find it odd but once I learned WHY it was implemented it makes more sense. Wait for larger more open maps, it'll work better.

If you think BF3 is better please do us all a favor and go play that bullsh*t game. I played the demo and it absolutley sucks, hell it looks like a starwars convention with all the lights and sh*t but hey it has crosshairs but hell I couldn't find the dam lightsaber. RO2 looks a hell of lot better than that Modern Warfare ripoff...Console port mutha-hubber.

I guess all the cod/MW boys believe they need to be heard so I wish these BF3-tards would get closed down it gets tiresome wading through there irrelevant bullsh*t. So losing you/others will be better for the community in the long run. Go post in the BF3 forums where all the other douches are.

All that your post proved was how intellectually challenged you are for not providing anything to this thread and calling names. Next time, brings facts and proof to your post and perhaps it will get you somewhere.

someone should just close this thread

obviously the time for factual impartial debate has long passed into MY GAME IS BETTER THAN YOUR GAME instead of discussing the subjects as to why RO2 does not seem to have the same magic as RO1

Can't you focus on something? Probably not.

If that is the reason, which does make sense, then why is it the entire screen. Wouldn't the effect be only in a small area around the center of the screen, essentially the size of the sniper scope?

When you focus on something, your peripheral vision gets much smaller, and in extreme cases such a tunnel vision it goes completely away.
