Sorry if this was answered already but i don't think so...

How mods will be integrated in RO2 ?

Will mods will be loaded like in ROO, via a Steam launcher in desktop , or will they be integrated in may menus of RO2 like in games like ArmA2, ETQW, BF2, BF2142,etc. ?

I ask this because my desktop is very cluttered by now :D

TIA

Why don't you just start your games through steam?
My desktop is empty aside from 'my recycle bin' and 'my computer':D

On a serious note, I think nobody knows yet except for TWI

i think the same as in RO:OST. You will have a new .exe in the MoD folder which you need to use. The mod folder will be installed in the HoS folder.

ArmA design for mods is the best I've seen so far...

I would love to see RO2 using that...

In ROO4145 mods there is no new .exe in the mod folder...and is not what matters...in the games that i listed (with exception of PRBF2 for BF2) there never is a .exe specific for the mod...what happens is that we can load the mods in a option somewhere in the main game menu if we want.

As for loading my games via Steam , i prefer not...i prefer have it minimized and stay that way.

he wasn't asking for that, he was asking were we going to have to boot a separate game, or could we launch it from inside the hos menu, eg in ancient times, you could launch ro-mod, killing floor, air buccaneers, alien swarm, etc from ut2004 via a screen accessed from the main menu, whereas to launch eg darkest hour you have to quit ostfront, scroll over your favourites list (or not, some of us have lots of games :p), select and launch darkest hour. All to check whether there are any spaces on eg the 29th servers, find out there weren't, reboot ostfront and go back to the -tat- 24/7 danzig hellhole :D

an ideal solution would be a master server browser (similar to, but not that overcrowded one steam provides, with options for *every* game steam has) where we could see all the ro2+mod servers to play on at the same time, and find out which battlefield we're playing on today

edit: filled in a mockup spreadsheet of what I'm talking about, which may or may not include some trolling ;)

I am sorry to derail a bit further, but you can just right-click the steam icon in the system bar and select the games:rolleyes:
But everybody has his preferences, so I stop;)

Just a 'mods' button in the main menu would be ideal imho.
However nothing has been stated about it, so have to wait for twi to respond

I hope it's similar to Mare Nostrum and Darkest Hour via Steam. An easy process.

Easy process but it can kill some mods; i prefer activate them in the main (yes ArmA is great for that) game and use a sort of unified browser that show you modded and vanilla servers.

That would be the best. Seeing as how many great mods are in the mod section, I would hate to see them end up like Mare Nostrum and die. Unified server browser would help a lot against that.

For expansions like RS and maybe Nam I would like to see them have their own steam page like DH and Mare Nostrum (and a lot of source mods) and you have to be required to purchase RO2 before you can download it for free (if RS is going to be free...)

I think steam makes it easier for people to actually find mods and maybe a way for people to learn about the original game.

For some games, the really good mods are hidden on their websites and unless you constantly check moddb then the player base probably won't be as high for said mod.

I'd just to see the mods on steam.

I think Zetsumei brought up the best idea about it here at TW forums. I have no clue how the games you listed handles it but I guess it's similar to Z's idea?

Be a man and extract your 7zip files to the mod folder and launch the exe from a desktop shortcut.

Back in my day we had to download 7zip files at 12 kilobytes per hour and manually unpack each byte by hand by etching it onto the hard drive with a crayon.

Integration in the server browser is more complex and will need to be "hard coded", i.e. Tripwire need to do code specific for each mod (i might be wrong) much easier to have a "MODs" button in main menu.

As for the ones that say that is better to have each mod with it's own page in Steam to make them more aware to general public, that system doesn't contradict the "MODs" button system.

They could still have their own page at Steam and of course with the warning about the need for RO2HOS be installed....and as you know Steam allows you to make also a icon in the Desktop to launch the game if you wish.

The "MODs" button however will be a complement that reduces desktop clutter and gives a sense of "integration" that will let you launch RO2HOS and then jump back and forward from mod to mod and back to RO2HOS.

IMHO, much better system.
