I'm a RO2 player, and i'm kinda tired of trying to join servers not filled up to 63/64 with bots. Is RO1 a dead game, or do people still play RO1, and Darkest Hour? I'm considering buying it, but not sure if it's dead or alive.

I just made an example, but there are still servers up to full slots number filled (not so many as f.e. 2 years ago, but still), some of players come back from RO2 waiting for promised patches and updates because now playing RO2 is not they wanted to be or else, so some veterans have their "come back". If you are not CoD-kid horny on graphical fireworks that your brand new g-card is able to do you WILL enjoy this game from 2006 as we do (if not basic RO:Ost then free mods) 
Not trying to go back and forth with you here, but the only full servers I see are the Russian ones or 24/7 Danzig. Sometimes you'll get a full one on an evening, but it's usually Arad over, and over again. They should just make RO1 free to play. Personally, I wouldn't buy this if I had done my research, as a multiplayer only game its pretty critical that there be a reasonable amount of people online.
Question was if people had played RO1 or DH, so the answer is "yes" doesn't matter the preferences of maps. I think DH is the most improved to basic RO and its tank fight is epic so "Panzer" warriors play DH, rest jumps between ro and mods, but of course the game has its high-time behind, nevertheless I wouldn't call it dead yet.
It is still a steal for the low price.
Sometimes there is a lull but the last 5 times I played there were full servers.

DH is alive. On Sunday the 29th ID server had 70 people.
