Should I buy RO and play it for the week left before KF comes out to get familiar with how KF is going to handle, or are the games completely different in that aspect?

Completely different, I'm afraid. Doesn't mean you shouldn't buy RO. Just for another reason. :)

What you can do, if you really want to execute your lil' plan, is to buy UT2004 and download the KF mod for it. It's what the retail game is based on so it's similar and should help prepare you for the retail game.

You should still buy RO, it's aroma is mildly pleasant and it flowers all through summer.

i guess im just worried about the number of players playing RO right now. It is kind of an old game and there is a sequal coming out that i might just wait for.

You can get ro pretty cheap for now...also it will be some time till RO:HOS comes out..so getting familiar with the overall concept isent a bad idea...

You can check the player numbers of RO in the steam stats

Red Orchestra has about 1000 players per day, that doesn't sound like much but it is enough. And it will take quite sometime until RO2 comes out.

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

Actually that means that RO averages 1000 players on at once per day. That does not mean there are only 1000 individual people playing RO per day. To generate averaging 1000 people playing RO at once it takes tens of thousands of individuals playing RO every day. Just thought you should know :)

I got RO last night just because I wanted to see the kind of work Tripwire has done before.

And honestly, I'm *blown away* by the sheer complexity and number of options available to the player. Realistic? About the only thing RO lacks is picking individual pieces of shrapnel from your body!

The only downsides I saw (in 2 hours of play) were the environments. Some maps were really cool, and some were a little flat, visually barren and there are huge stretches of open ground. While a lot of those were player generated maps, some of the TW maps were a little....well, flat. The result in game play was a lot of camping and waiting for people to appear so you could shoot them from 1000 yards away.

All in all though I was really impressed. TW did what so many companies refuse to do: Take an idea to it's fullest realization. If RO was made to be that complex and layered, I can't wait to see what they do with KF.

PS-I would love to see what you guys could accomplish with RO if you had a AAA budget.
