Narva 17th March 1944

Otto Carius one of Germany's highest decorated tank aces, was to hold a frontage against a mass of russians with limited infantry and his few tiger tanks in his platoon.

In this action, over 3 days he personally amassed over 30 tank kills.

I would like any server admins or clan admins who can test this map and provide feedback, on gamplay.

The Tiger Tank has a new skin, also has been modified, will need to move the 4 aHMT files into the system directory.

Improved armour
Turret rotation inline with maximum turn
Improved Penetration
Gear Ratio heavier
New Winter Skin

Currently no BOT support, will do after Gameplay established.

Need to get an understanding on

time for map (full server)
reinforcements
Objective exploits

Very nice map, it is so large (tanksniping with 1000+ shots shouldn't be rare). Great idea to use the boxes next to the T34's so you can ride on them. This map is a great challenge for the Germans and the Russians. The germans need an full tank to do something, the russians need good tactics to get the tank from behind.

A pity that I couldn't do anything for the mapping team but I stil can't do anything with mapping.

sander: Your input and encouragement is still valuable mate, don't underestimate that side of the map.

GS Schimpf: Yeah been a while been busy working on this, also got ask to do a map for Mare Nostrum but all hush hush on that one.

But thats not the end of the HMT, we will be looking for another historical battle to recreate and we take requests.

I really like the map but I think there needs to be more infantry carriers and probably a better tank as the improved Tiger eats the T34's for lunch. When we were playing it on the RTR server, the Tiger killed all the T34s and then marched right up to spawn where it totally took over the Allies spawn. There is an area around the Farm house where you will fall through the map and die. Other than those small details this map has some good potential.

We will be taking your input onboard about the T-34's, but we will wait and see how the four T-34's adapt in tactics before changes. I still feel with a bit of teamwork and using equipment as they were historically used people adapt to the threat, you hopefully will find all four T-34 working as a team to knock out the Tiger, down each flanks.

The map is totally historic, the equipment and TOE is correct for this battle, yes the tiger is a killer as it should be, 30 T-34 tanks were knocked out in this battle. Currently there is only 4 respawnable tigers, I may knock this down to two, this may see the Tiger crews being more careful and not so cavalry like with there charges.

Inf carriers, my concern with these units they are used and abused (AKA satchel throwers) I was hoping the tanks would work with the infantry in a carrying and supporting role atleast to the first objective.

After this the Inf has to foot it like in the real life battle.

MUST FIX the TIGER going to the allied spawn issue, I would ask admins politely to ask player not to do this, until fixed.

But without the kindness of admins loading this up I wouldn't know these exploits.


Again HMT maps are more historical recreations.

The whole battlefield has been heightmapped as is was 1944, and locations of buildings and ruins from hand sketched maps from Otoo Carius. As well as some present day photos of the area in estonia.

Atm the Tiger Turret turning speed is faster than Otto Carius described it in his book ;)
This makes the Tiger a bit too powerful imho.

The Turn ratio is from a documentry, of a tiger rotating its turret, and I matched positions on where the turret was then played the film simultaniously with the red orchestra game on the other screen. Modified until they were in perfect sync.

The film footage was not sped up as there was people in the background walking normally and it looked normal. I don't know how much more I could get the Tiger correct, specifications tend to lie as do tankers memories which fade, but it is rare live footage lies.

So I stand behind the rotate speed as being historically correct.


As for the thought of this was only while the engine was active, my opinion of that is that if your in combat you would use the maximum rotation speed of your turret especially if T-34 are speeding on your flanks. You would request for you driver to rev the engine to turn the turret fast. This is where I differ from Tripwire on this decision, yes it is slow without the engine revs but in combat you do everything you can to use your machinery and weapons to the best of it abilities.

If you applied Tripwires half speed logic to Tanks, we should look at reducing the speed of tanks as tankers never drove at maximum speed because they may throw a track. But since you can't throw a track in game the speed is still full and not reduced. Hopefully you can see the logic in this.


But if the Tiger is too powerful we will reduce the spawn rate to two, this means you only need to kill it twice. I still feel a very achieveable thing to do.

nice model, Laughing Terror used a photo I gave him of the Tiger at the time, but stuffed if I can find it now, but one thing was the tiger wan't covered in mud. Must of just had a wash. <smile>

good to see some positive feedback,any probs we might have will be fixed asap,my partner in mapping[DoC_HoLiWooD] has been a big help in getting this map off the ground n to b1,looking forward to seeing the battle play out,in sure DoC will be around for our next maps.....

The tear I found is at E3 to the side of the Farm House. As to the tank problems, it was due to the tiger eating all the T34s and then parking in spawn till I explained that RTR frowns on spawn camping. So the tank, a halftrack and an mg set up about 100 yards from the railway and proceeded to lay the smack down on us hehe. I really like the layout of the map and can't wait to see the next beta.

Despite a few anomalies, we had a ton o fun in this map last night... it plays well. Yes, it's in need of a few minor fixes and some spawn protection. (For both sides) The Russians can do a flank ambush on the German Spawn too.

Otherwise its an excellent map that cries out for more tanks and weapons. This could be an epic in the making! ;)

hahah I seen that cartoon 'Tigers covered in Mud' I believe it is called.

Well the good news is , I fixed those pesky holes in the map terribly sorry for that, we played on a version two nights ago and I did a minor change to an objective but seem the tear presented itself on the final build grrr.

Some minor changes to B1 as well

- one extra HT and carrier on both sides.
- Also cannot capture farmhouse without the capture of the ruins
- Minefield added to protect initial allied spawn

Side note played for the first time on a full server, to hear 4 tank commanders coordinating over the mics how to kill the tiger and what directions they will come from, then the thrill of killing the tank, was everything I could of ask for.

But then being abused by the infantry for not supporting them as they were getting mowed down was quite funny.

I hope this map promotes teamwork or you cannot defend or attack it, and more talking over the voip.

Mike as for your epic, how about I make changes for a tank only version (and PAK soldiers)

Say 2 T-34/85, 4 T-34/76, 2 SU-76 against 2 Tigers, 4 PIVH, 2 Stugs

Unlimited reinforcements

It probably be play like Arad on a different map.
