Yeah if you're trying to make maps for Ostfront you really should be in the channel at all times. We're quite helpful usually. Sometimes we're just weird but you'll learn to live with it. ;)

Well, with these guys around, you won't need my help, but I'll be trying to hang around the RO-LevelDesign irc channel this weekend as well.

I strongly urge anyone new to UnrealEd to go through the tuts that accompany the SDK. At least the quick start tutorial at the beginning, anyway.

Because the mapping channel is on the same network as the official RedOrchestra channel, so maybe he assumed people would be on the network with #RedOrchestra, and join it from there.
