no, the point is that the cristal reflects something that its not there. And if you look better its not only a curved pipe.

I believe the logical explanation would be that tripwire modded red orchestra and combined it with the KF mod which is now KF retail
In the process of making KF they left over some cubemaps or env maps? from red orchestra
( im not sure the exact terminology for unreal engine but we call them cubemaps in source )
I think the most important thing to understand Alexei is that there are no realtime reflections in unreal2 engine lol

they were lazy and used cubemaps from RO. end of story :p

good observation alexei. i never noticed that lol. never actually looked at the trader, just kinda walk in and hit e.

btw has anyone noticed that farm is extremely similar to hedghog except in the dark?!?! (this is sarcasm in case you couldnt tell).

Yeah, several puddles and several trader windows do this. It's really noticeable on Bedlam and Waterworks but not really an issue...

Wish I had the eyes and powers of observation you have. Even with the "help" I had a hard time 'seeing' it.

For the non-level designer, what is a cube map and why would it 'appear' in this particular instance?

cubemap is just something a surface should reflect, current gen games usually have either entities they place in the map to create cubemaps or they are created ingame.
In older engines such as UE2.5 cubemaps are faked in the texture itself, so f.e. a level designer takes a screenshot, and combines that screenshot with a normal texture to get the reflection. But because of that you can end up with odd situations such as this.

There's a little more to it than i said to create a cubemap in KF, but i think i got the point across.

yeh that disappointed me quite a bit. RO-Hedgehog was never a really fun map in RO to begin with. a KF-Danzig wouldve been a TON more fun! Hedgehog/Farm is just way too wide open and big, sure the map gets harder later on, but damn it feels so dull, something about the map i just dont like.
