If people expect RO2 to be as similar to RO1 as for instance COD7 is to COD6, then it might not be a good idea to promote RO2 via RO1.

I have to agree. If its not a preorder things thats fine, but you dont want people to preorder it start up RO1 while they wait and think that R02 will be as "difficult". People may even cancel there preorder based on RO1.

I am still quite confused as to what you two mean. Wouldn't RO 2 be difficult for them as well? It's not like it's your standard shooter, most people won't be expecting what's coming to them. RO1 or RO2

I think they are talking about the learning curve of Red Orchestra Ostfront. For many players it was a bit steep and clunky at first and they gave up on it prematurely. I know plenty enough people who tried it and gave up on it because it frustrated them.

TWI has said numerous times that they have worked very hard at making Heroes of Stalingrad as accessable as possible to all players, where it should be easy and smooth to get in and play the game (not necessarily be good at it). This way they will stick at it, learn and enjoy it and then tell their friends and so on and so on.

This statement confuses the hell out of me. I have read it over and over trying to find another meaning. Red Orchestra is a bad example of what Red Orchestra is/will be? I.. my.. what?

I compressed the text a bit too much:
Normally I would agree with a free prequel or free weekend of the prequel to let people have a taste.
I personally think it will only have negative effects in this case, because RO2 will be the easy learning curve game and we will push ppl away with RO1.

That's what I meant by my statement, sorry for the confusion:rolleyes:

I agree with Mr. Lebanon. There should be a "Red Orchestra" package on Steam with a slightly discount so people can play both RO and RO2 at a slightly smaller price.

well as a new member of the RO community I'd like to try out RO

Most of us that have looked into it have accepted the fact it's not going to be easy - and as easy as say CoD or BFBC2 (battlefield 2 was actually quite difficult) - there is still quite a large learning curve online for someone new to the series

My idea on getting on OST before the release of HoS was so I could at least suffer through a little bit of the learning curve before getting into HoS..

Although I'm quite impatient at this point I'm thinking of just throwing down my 10 bucks lol :p

EDIT: I did it :p
I'll kick myself in the nuts later when it goes on sale ahaha

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if TWI will have a pre-order package including Ostfront at a steal price?

I'm new to the series and would like to try out Ostfront in the time waiting for HoS.. but at the same time I fear buying it full price and having it come in a "Steam pre-order special!"

TWI deserves the full money IMO

Stupendous idea!

Tripwire, I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying all the new players on Ost Front right now. Wasn't but 8 months ago me and a half dozen of my Steam friends had to struggle to populate a TWB server for a single night and nowadays Old Glory is filled to the brim every night! Of course, I think the European community never had it so hard up as it's more popular there, but for the starved American audience, a larger player base is a blessing, and I believe that this game will sell itself.

I will be on the ground evangelizing.

You are absolutely right here.
Although I am Dutch, I am almost always on the old glory server, just because the European servers are full:eek:
Fortunately lag is not an issue.

When I started RO1 a few months ago the european ones were only populated in the evening.

However I still think the ratio I-try-RO1-and-I-love-it / I-tried-but-it-is-too-hard might become negative and it will push people away.

ROOST will still be around just because it will be cheaper and some players won't have a computer that can handle ROHOS. Also there is DH where many players just like to play the Western Front (if it does't have Americans in it, they won't play it) or happen to like a large variety of vehicles.

Haha don't get yourself too riled up. The game's quite enjoyable once you learn how to play it a little safer, but sometimes being bold can make for some great war stories :)

I sometimes feel like people are playing on 40 inch monitors to notice the little specs off in the distance are soldiers!

I do ok on some city maps... this one foresty/snowy/trenchy map yesterday though I was yielding no success

unless of course success is guaged by hiding in a hole and praying the artillery doesn't hit :p

Generally, I am anti-preorder, been burned too many times - by companies I trusted (looking at you Splash Damage), however, it would be a good pre-order bonus. Buy RO2 now and play RO1 to keep you until Sept. If they threw in KF, I would probably preorder now. Otherwise, Ill wait for the inevitable D2D, gamestop, etc. sales; and if not, I can buy the game for the the day it comes out anyway. Otherwise, there's not much reason to pre-order.

It would be quite pointless actually.
These days I can hardly find 6 active servers in ROOST, and half of them are tank servers, the other half are full most of the time, so I can't join.
Once ROHOS is out, those few servers will probably disappear.

Other than that, when you can join a game it's still very enjoyable, I'm really glad I heard about this game on the Bad company 2 forum the very same day it was discounted on steam, I found the game I've always wanted to play.
