although ro can basically be played on a mac ro uses steam as distrubution platform. And steam is not supported on linux and macintosh.

On linux you got windows emulators you can use to emulate steam (you can run the game on opengl although the menu looks fooked up in opengl everything else is ok).

So maybe there are some emus for mac aswell to do thesasme.

well dunno about performance if you run the game on opengl you should get it shouldn't emulate that

To enable opengl

Open up the redorchestra.ini

there is some list with

;direct3d9x
Direct3d
;opengl

etc

just put a ; infront of the renderer you DONT want to use and remove the ; of the renderer you do want to use.

But test it out first i dont know anything about emulation or about its works try pming bobdog maybe.

You can't play RO on a Mac due to steam only being on windows.
If your friend has a newer intel-based laptop, he could dual-boot into windows and play it from there, however.

If he's got a PPC mac, he's outta luck, sorry :(

Use Wine?

Or is that just for Linux?

It won't work if he has a PPC Mac, period.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

If he has an intel mac however, he could dual boot or virtualize to play RO.

He could do what I did: Join the dark side.

When I upgraded my computer last fall, I bought the cheapest MacBook for my daily use computer, and I found a Dell Small Business deal on a PC to use as my gaming computer.

Obviously, the CPU architecture is a problem but isn't Rosetta capable of runtime translating/emulating an x86?

I'm not saying it will be fast nor playable, but in theory it should work, no?

First of all, Rosetta is for emulating a PPC, not x86. It allows owners of intel-based macs to run programs which were compiled for older PPC Macs and have not yet been updated to run on intel macs.

Second of all, there is no emulator that can handle hardware accelerated graphics yet. None. VMware might have something, but that hasn't been released yet.

Trust me. If you have a PPC mac, you cannot run Ostfront on it. It can't be done.

With an x86 mac however, you have options, such as dual-booting or virtualizing.
