There's a difference between "camping" (read: defending) and being out of reinforcements and seeing one or two of your teammates are in a building, prone in the corner with their body half hidden just waiting. It's usually in some obscure, multi-floored building with a lot of rooms.

They're not camping an objective. That's not defense.

thats not even camping thats idiocy...

Camping is all fine and good if your helping your team win. Seeing people camp places where they cant defend a capzone just pisses me off. I dont mind when the other team does it because if they are camping i know where they are and i can go around or kill them easy enough. Really bugs me when i see my own team camping somewhere that they cant even see the cap zone. If people want to camp they should be on the defending team and do it from the cap zone or at least blocking the enemies path to the cap.

In war the best camper wins. Bad campers camp locations that dont matter. Good campers camp the capzones and dont let anyone take them ;)

There is no such a thing as camping in realistic tactical shooters.

agreed.
In games like COD /UO sure camping is annoying as dying in the game often doesnt mean much. In RO players often dont want to "die" therefore there is no such thing as camping in RO (imo).

personally i think camping when ur defence is fine (hell i would encourage it)

however if i caught some1 say camping the ridge on basovka with an mp40, i'd just have to shoot them on the spot for cowardice (which i would say is fairly realistic)

If you're defending, you camp (or go with "active defense), if you're attacking, yes you need to move up (can anyone say Kryokovo?), though obviously it's fine to take out enemy soldiers in your path first. It's that simple.

But if you camp, you need to either be camping IN THE CAPZONE or camping a route that the enemy takes to get there.

Sure there is IF you're exit/spawn camping. All shooters have some sort of respawning system unless they're "one life" servers. As long as there's respawning, there will be some form of exit camping if the map isn't properly designed.

Never bothered me,but I do think that camping around an objective is a good thing to do.
I tend to get annoyed at people proning in corners though :\

last night I remembered this thread when I was playing on 50-men server. StalingradKessel was played. I was as Axis, spawned on South Rail and Alies spawning in Warehouse so I proned to that ruins next to SRY, camping main exit from Warehouse... shooting one Alie player by another, without any fear of possibility to die... then I said hmm lets try not to camp. I stand up, run into Assembly ....bam .... I was dead in 10 seconds after this stupid decision. So message to all, keep camping because thats what you are supposed to do with rifles :)

Actually, I have nothing against the so-called "camping". As already stated by most others, "camping" is something that is not really existing in RO - but that does not mean that it really does not exists.
It is "in between" existence and in-existence.
Sure, you could call someone who is sitting in a capping zone a "capmer" - but also a "tactical gamer".
One of my favorite lines concerning this topic is "Camping is a legal tactic."
But personally, I would change this line a bit:
"Camping is a legal tactic, as long as there is a chance for the enemy to negate it."
This - basically - means nothing more than something like Spawn- or Spawnexit-Camping should be avoided, because it can be very unfair.
As long as it is maybe one or two guys, camping the spawn exit with their bolt-action-rifles from the distance - no problem, should not be a problem for a good team.
But: When there are sitting three or more guys directly in a corner at the spawn-exit, camping it with Papasha's and invulnerable for grenades, waiting for some more guys to camp the exit...this is no more fun, it is even unfair. And should be banned from every server.

I was called a camper recently on Snowy Forest (or whatever it's called now) when I was wiping out Russians with an MG. People laughed and the guy got all defensive. Pretty funny stuff.

I love the MG42 on that map.

In a bizarro world...

In a bizarro world...

I remember the first time I came across the expression "camping". It was when playing RO 3.3. The problem wasn't understanding what the other player meant, but rather understanding WHY anybody would concoct such an utter "moronism". Here we were, hunkered down at a fairly tactical area of the map (at least it felt that way), killing and trying to not get killed (as you would in a war, I guess), and then the dreaded C-word came along. I felt like a sub-human. And only for doing the ying instead of the yang.

Is "cleaning your house" worthy of a "stealing food from the roaches" redefinition? Or is "preventing a burglary" really "stealing"? It's all absurd. Why come up with such a negative redefinition of good, old "defence"? Defending is what we do all the time. And is a stationary defence a sin? Come on... It's practically a necessity.

All the talk of "camping", and not "defence", just makes me feel like we're living in a bizarro world...

Camping=Defence=Win.

Camping=Defence=Win.

As many ppl hates camping and loves it depending on.. If u are attacking or Defending.
For example the Germans on Stallingrad kessel shouldent attack if the weare house has been taken.. They should sit on their asses and defend. To make it difficaullt for the Ruskies :) And if u are the russians on the same map and start camping after u taken the Wearehouse u are just plain stupid cause u aint never gonne win that way.
But it takes skill to be a good camper.. Becuase first u got to find a good and defendable spot then u actually have to hit what u are aiming at. And thats not always as easy as it sounds. Due to covering fire from the enemy or smoke or ground shaking due to nades and artillary. Also about camping. One camper dosent make a diffirence in RO. Never seen spwan raping in RO and ive been playing for 2 years. Other games u should play if u want to play Rambo Style.
CS.BF2.Quke.Unreal tournament.Halo and so on.
Ok i have to admit that some of them takes some skill also.. I was a beta tester for CS..But i wouldnt play it now days. Someone talked about DF wich was the original bigmap FPS me and my friend loved that game..
Take care everyone

The thing is in RO either its solid defence or pointless (Exit camping aside- which is generally down to poor map design imo. There should always be multiple spawn exits). If someone is holding somewhere where alot of people run past and keep dying then that is generally always useful, even if it isnt a capzone. Often times holding the approaches to a cap or major thoroughfares is just as important.

If they are hiding in a bizarre room pointing their gun at a closed door in the far corner of a map then the only people that should get annoyed are the defenders for someone wasting precious manpower.

And if someone shouts "N00bzor Camper!!1!one!!" for dying the same way repeatedly I refer you to that noted polymath George W. Bush:

"Fool me once, shame on...... shame on you. Fool me..... you can't get fooled again." :D
