I think you like the more open ended maps, I would like a mixture of different maps, anything from travelling for 500 miles like DH
Cmon misconception dude. Only a few maps (the terribly designed tank maps) are like that. The rest are only slightly bigger than RO style maps and have a very good "feel" to them. They are linear, yet open ended at once (two spawn routes). Not to mention the best maps (schutzesepp's) are all ACTUAL villages in Belgium that he went to take pictures of so they're exact representations of the real places Peiper stormed through during the BoB.

I think the point here is more that almost all maps where like that. I agree that I found them kick *** when I first played DH but after a while you also wanna get a more boxy map (hope you get what I mean). Especially the battle of bulge maps, I understand that they are similar to the real villages and the way they play out is also similar to how the real battles were conducted (with a charge in the open fields around them), but combat was seen in other places too, like the huge forest ardennes is all about.

Bottom line, yes to 1:1 realistic maps with a bit of meat grind thrown in, because new players will undoubtedly love them, seeing the lack of such maps in most other games, but not in the scale of DH. 1 or maybe even 2 out of the 10 that HOES will ship with are enough.

That would be extremely hard for Stalingrad, bombing adn artillery changed the city so much.

Greetings,

I was wondering if there are plans to port some RO maps like Danzig Remix v3, Odessa, Caucasus, etc... to RO II.

Those are classics.

Tripwire are a bit more experienced since RO1.

Hopefully this means they have improved things in terms of mapping and everything.

Personally I prefer infantry-only maps, but if I was forced to choose from CA-maps Leningrad, Konigsplatz, Stoumont (DH), Foy (DH) would be on my top 10, since the tank/infantry combination is rather good in those. There are an awful lot of really bad CA maps out there, though. It seems often the designer just thought it would be fun adding a tank to the map without really thinking about the consequences (or lack thereof for the tankers or opposing infantry).

I don't presume to judge regarding the tank only maps, since I don't play them (I am not a tanker, and just have never found any pleasure in tanking).

I agree. We're not dealing with the same Tripwire as yesteryear and I hope to see some more innovation and evolution in their map design this time around.

Regardless, some folks here make good points, some more than others. Maps like Leningrad, ZooBunker, Pariser Platz, etc. is where I like to see the direction go but I feel maps like Danzig are needed for some game play diversity.

So far from what little I've seen in the footage the maps look well made.

How many maps did TWI make for RO?

How many maps did TWI make for RO?

I believe TWI only made about 16 maps for RO right? I know there are hundreds of maps. So why not make more maps and release them every 6 months...... like 10 at a time. Well groomed maps... Many of the custom(which I love) dont play well with 50 plus people on a server.

I way prefer the wide, linear, 2 caps at a time push maps. One of my favs is DH's Cheneux. I just love taking those tough as hell trenches at the beginning and then working our way through the town. (its not super wide i know) The push maps also tell a story in a way. Might be cheesy to some but each chapter (caps) for me has its own memories and feel as you work your way through. Some caps were hell to take and some were taken with ease and teamwork.

When I play RO1 a lot of the maps tend to feel like TDM IMO and its the main reason I play DH more.

Anyway I was really hoping TW would adopt this style more for RO2. Will there be any?

I'll agree with this completely. I love the 2 flank spawning in DH. It somehow creates this thing where one flank is overrun, while the other one is still holding, and you have the enemy attacking from all directions. I also like that DH maps are more rural than urban, more open spaces with trees and bushes, trenches and small houses. RO maps are mostly urban for some reason. DH also has this "frontline" aspect more prominent. Hope RO2 maps are more like that.

I personally hate one way lineair maps. I like the DH maps like foy as you atleast have 2 capzones and can spawn at outer flanks allowing for tactical diversity.

But personally I hope we won't get too many maps that are super lineair meatgrinder pushmaps like koningsplatz. As in push maps any form of flanking or tactical diversity isn't possible and the map always plays the same as the first time you play that map.

So when twi decides to go with lineair maps like for instance koningsplatz, I hope that they somewhat take the dh approach of having multiple capzones open however with multiple different spaws. (Koningsplats got only one capzone open for the attackers at the same time although the defenders can recap a previous zone).
Agreed with you, i dont like maps that are a line that much, but they are fun sometimes especially with a mg :D

I always like to see a good mix of types of map and would love to see the very best of the original mod and RO1 maps ported.

Saying that though, there will be an SDK out with the game so you can create your own maps and if you are not a mapper, it may be worth creating a concept of the kind of map you like and putting it in the suggestion forum - you never know, an experienced mapper may like the idea and take it up.

I think parizer platz has a good setting but I dont think the layout of objectives/spawns and indoor elements is good at all. For example there are some points where the russians actually spawn inside an active capzone. Also the tank limits dont really make sense for a map played on a public server. For tank crew it means when they run out they walk the length of the map.

Leningrad is a great 1:1 scale map. It has a smart layout while not sacrificing anything that would make it feel too gamey/unrealistic.
