i was also a bit confused by the comments as well hockeywarrior......if Realism servers will have ranks and unlocks, and pistols for classes (like riflemen) are unlocks, then that would imply that Realism servers will have pistols for riflemen. but then yes there's the comment that Realism servers will have historically accurate loadouts with pistols......another question, perhaps better with a different thread, is that if there's "historic" loadouts for pistols in Realism servers, then would that also mean historic for other weapons as well?? aka, the rare weapons? i agree that the comment is not quite as clear as it could be.

1) Are there weapon unlocks in the Realism mode? Are there rare weapons?
Yes and yes.

5) In Realism/Custom mode without unlocks/rare weapons will the players be issued common equipment such as bayonets and PPSH-41 drums? Will servers be able to choose which specific weapons or unlocks are unavailable?
In custom mode you have a lot of different options. You can limit which weapons, and which levels of ranking are available. So if you don't want the rare weapons, you can tell the server not to allow them. If you don't want guys to have "perks" or any ranking benefits, then you can limit that. I don't think there are any settings to force things on though. In realism mode however, it is going to be set up where only the historically correct classes are equipped with pistols.

Hmmm, now that both of you, hockeywarrior and bswearer (why anyone would vote both your posts negative is beyond my imagination), gone more into detail about your view of the statement from Ramm, I understand your point of view and why there is a little bit of confusion about it; and I have to agree. :)

Seems like we have to wait to be really sure how it will be in the end. ;)

I know right?! It IS ambiguously worded ... that's all I'm saying. Sadly there are lots of members on these forums that enjoy downvoting people just because they hold immature forum grudges. There has been a disturbing increase of this kind of activity on the forums as of late and it bugs the hell out of me.

I don't downvote other people just because I disagree with them -- that is unless they're being disrespectful.

After all, it's not like I WANT to be right in this case! I would love to be wrong and know that all of these options DO exist on regular ranked "Realism" servers.

Well lets look at it this way.

All NCO's, Squad Leaders and Officers carry sidearms in the German Army, correct? All Mg gunners assistants carry sidearms, correct? All Mortar troops assistants carry sidearms, correct? All Panzer Crews carry sidearms, correct? Now also include infantry that has picked up sidearms laying around the battlefield and you end up having alot of sidearms in circulation in the regular German Army. Your not likely to throw away your sidearm if you have the choice, its not like a grenade so if you pick one up in 1941, your likely to still have it in 1944 too.

And at the end of the day an SMG gunner is less likely, in my opinion to want or need to pick up a sidearm as his SMG is more than capable, however a rifleman would be able to use a sidearm for close combat as his bolt action would not be suffice.

Sturm

Thing is that this presumably was a larger amount of sidearms than that which was present in the combined western Allied armies. Making the German army look quite pistol happy :p

then again, it is just a game.

"realism" always struck me as a funny adjective for a video game.

one of my uncles was in WWII and had a colt pocket automatic in .25 acp with him the entire time. not counting the P38 he brought back with him.

there are a plethora of WWII vintage P38s out there. i have a pretty good idea there weren't packed away in storage and the allied troops rescued them from mothballs

i personally carried a Ruger Blackhawk .44 Rem Mag and i had a perfectly good M16A1 issued by Uncle Sam.

pistols are a fact of war
