OK, there are zillions of topics talking about bugs. Bugs might be fixed soon or so. Now what about gameplay specific problems like the bolting speed for leveled up riflemen?

What the hell.

It's ridiculously fast. Like it was not already too fast at level 0. Not even the most arcadish games on the market like the old moh games had so horribly represented a bolt action rifle. It's bad to the point that the third person animation is gone, the guy just shoots continuously and if you are not staring at him you'd think someone is firing a semi-auto.

C'mon, this should be basic assumption for the creators of RO1. I don't even use bolts anymore. Overall I like the game and still believe in it's potential. But THIS totally kills immersion for me since bolts are the main reason for a world war 2 game being played.

Why not make these cheap stuff exclusive for relaxed realism or normal? These settings weren't supposed to be just a matter of hud on and off... or was it.

It wasn't unheard of in the first world war for trained soldiers - particularly those in the British army trained to perform a "Mad Minute" to be able to get 25 - 30 hits on a 12 inch target 300 yards away with the record apparently consisting of 38 hits. The rate of fire was so intense in one instance German troops allegedly thought they were facing a machine gun.

Nice video. But in RO2 it doesn't come at the cost of the accuracy he talks about nor sway. Specially when you don't even need to wait for the iron sights animation to end to be able to shoot in the middle of the screen.

By the way, I strongly hope this quick IS shot has already been said to be a bug by the devs. I haven't checked the forums lately.

You do realise the nearly 40 shots I was discussing in my bit about the "Mad Minute" were aimed and hit a 12 inch target at 300 yards. I'm not saying this happened all the time in field conditions but that a trained soldier wouldn't have a problem from a static position producing a very decent rate of accurate fire with his bolt action rifle it's simply a matter of pointing, cycling the bolt and firing - rinse and repeat.

Some of the bonuses to weapon handling are pretty worrisome to me. My PPSh is around LV40 and firing it in relation to a LV0 one is like night and day. Previously I had to use burst-firing to hit people from a distance, now I can successfully go full-auto from across the map.

I wonder how a LV50 MkB behaves? It's probably like firing the stationary HMGs.

Re:

I use manual bolting, I have yet to witness how fast my level 3 rifleman can shoot with auto-bolt.

I still can't believe they could do it that fast from hip while moving around with such accuracy unless they were all seeking guinness for at least a decade. My concern is that in a few weeks everybody is gonna hold rifleman hipshooter guinness records.

Not to mention the leveled up mg hipshooting... is there a video of someone trying to do that in real life?

Yesterday I hip-shot MG from the top of grain elevator into the russian spawn exit. And consitently hit people once I got my gun pointing in the general direction.

I very much like how hipshooting, once you get the barrel pointing in the right direction, WORKS.

Lame.

It would take me a year to get mine to that level with the amount of time I get to play.

The reason a mechanic like this worked in Killing Floor was because it was a co-op game.

So in RO:Ost there were voices (I won't be able to give you numbers for the life of me) that bolting was excruciatingly slow and now it's too fast?

Read my lips: you can't please everybody.

Seems to me it's one of those issues that really crops up when you add the leveling bits. The already a bit fast but pretty much ok suddenly becomes unbelievably fast once you speed it up by 20%

you can see in the first vid that the guy fires with his ring finger while working the bolt with the index and thumb. this was a common technique back then in all the armies except the united states (they had standard semi autos issued)

an American "I'm not really worried about accuracy right now"... sounds about right ;)
i'm kidding!
Anyway yeah Coolicus is right, the average British soldier from the mid 19th century onwards was actually VERY talented at shooting, yeah they used formations still but they were still good marskmen (I'm not sure about now but even in the 80's, automatic assault rifles weren't adopted in favour of more accurate semi-automatic rifles). However, the SMLE was special, it's bolting system was much easier than other bolt-action rifles which did help alot.

A teenager:

Mauser K98 - Fast shooting - 5 shots in 4 seconds - YouTube

He does not fire this everyday or have his life rely on it.

This, i like this speed for the bolting in the game, he's probably not aiming too much but at that speed, our professional in-game soldiers should be able to aim and fire at that speed.

Yes, nerf the rifles even more and add more MKbs because that will surely fix the problem of almost zero bolt-action users and ridiculous overpopulation of semis + automatics.

I'm not sure if you're complaining about the time-to-ironsight of the rifleman or the fact that the animation doesn't occur at very high speeds. If it's the latter, then I suspect it's due to some combination of server lag, tickrate and this movement prediction system they seem to have.

I think it's mostly that movement doesn't seem to have any effect on the bolting speed. I want to see them bolting at the same speed while jogging.

So bolts become actually useful is you level them up a bit? I used to love using bolts in Ro:Ost they just felt amazing, and most people were using them.

In Ro2 I make a dive for the semiauto rifles now. The smaller maps make me feel very outclassed as a bolter, although if it gets that fast I might have to give em a go again. ;-)
