First of i want to say that i enjoyed the game alot, Gameplay is fun, Story was well written, all the fun references and it doesn´t overstay it´s welcome, usually i don´t write reviews but with this game i see alot of potential to make a sequel a real all time hit.
I think the main problem is the length, personally I knew beforehand that it´s gonna be shorter from interviews, though I can see people who buy it blind being a little bit upset about this, despite that and even myself wanting more I must say that the length of the game suits it´s content, as i said it doesn´t overstay it´s welcome like other games like Mad Max or Assassins Creed where there are so many enemy fortressess to clear and collectables that you are just in an endless loop where you never get anything done and it isn´t fun.
That doesn´t mean however that the games length coudn´t be increased, if you ever get around to do Maneater 2 I think the best course of action would be to have more diverse missions and general content, for example as others already suggested, wildlife interacting with each other, though i would go a step beyond and give them like their own little habitats, like a beach where the seals live, including a mission where you have to snack them down like great whites and orcas do, maybe even add an elephant seal boss that you have to fight on land.
On the same note as more Wildlife, it would also be nice to have more special human peds, i was really suprised we didn´t get some Surfers as they are some of the more common shark victims, or some people on waterski, would be pretty fun to snack them of their gear, also if the Mausland Flash-Shark games thought me anything then that there arr also targets you could put in the air, Paragliders or dragging even a Helicopter down could be hilarious.
Speaking about those Flash games, how about some slick Sunglasses and/or a NY hat for our shark as a skin for collecting all the number plates? i feel like there should be more rewards for the collectables, just like the locations do, it would make it more fun and rewarding to do them.
More skins and parts generally would be awesome, Thresher shark tail, Goblin shark jaw or that jaw of the ancient shark that was like a circular saw, it also open the possibility for some fun references too, like a jaw with an ice hockey stick for the San Jose Sharks, or some Street Shark pants, or some Kawaii Anime Eyes as in that insane shark dating sim, you could make those unlock via eating a hockey player or eating a boat filled with japanese tourists.
Eh.. I´m getting a bit side tracked
As for missions and side quests, they also need to be a bit more diversity, for example those 10 shark hunters, it would have been alot more fun and increased the playtime if they got their own little side stories, make them despicable so you really want to chow them down, maybe one we have to track down on his mansion at the pool party or another we have to suprise by smashing through the wall of Flamingo Joes.
Another thing a sequel should touch upon is a revamping of the battle system, it´s okay as it is but could need some tweaking, I know a lock-on was deliberatly left out for difficulty reason though, i think it´s a must simply for quality of life, in exchange just scale up the difficulty of predators and apex, make them a bit harder to beat.
The biggest change though needs to go into combat with boats/hunters, they are pretty Op as it is right now, there aim, firerate, health and damage are prrety high, I find myself just spamming evasion with the bone fins just so i can stay alife while doing damage myself.
What could help would be some more boat interactions, let us chomp on the backsides like Jaws and have us use the thrash mechanic on them, or if you go fullspeed with the Shadow set and ram a ship from below it flips over, that set could really need that ompfh, another set with actual stealth would also be very welcome.
In terms of optics i think the game could also be improved, you kinda went there a little bit with the stylized Thrash jaw and fond, but it would be even more awesome if it was applied to all the menus, have it stylish like Sunset Overdrive or Persona 5, maybe a cool 90s Surfer/tiki flair.
On a more personal note, i mentioned in another thread that a nice DLC would be following a movie Crew who makes a B-movie trash shark movie would be alot of fun, but maybe safe that for the sequel since their is so much to be done there,
Now that i finished the game i would really love to see for the DLC an Innsmouth area with a Cthulhu super boss, i liked the hints and you got that big ol Kaiju hatch that would make for a great entrance point, put it to use!
I know this is alot, but all in all i just want to say with this is that it´s already a good game but has so much potential to be a real bestseller, thumps up boyz!
