I love long firefights.
If it takes skill to hit someone that's fine by me.
But if you finally hit someone in the chest and he just continues walking and firing that's not fine by me.

This forum always feels like throwing meat to wolves. I'm just going to stop posting about the game period, because it's going to help get this thread locked, and then people who actually want to have real discussions about its development won't be able to use it.

If someone wants to talk to me about RnL, just PM me. It's less fuss that way, and it won't cause a third world war.

If somebody is stepping out of line hockey, just report the post and let the mod team take care of it. We don't like flamewars either and do try and clean up threads before locking if it's possible.

On that note, I and others I know who work at TWI look forward to seeing what RnL can be in the future.

Seems like people are having hard time remembering it is alpha and also work-in-progress.

I am not saying people should ignore the problems, but more likely take note that "This is something that will be fixed later\needs to be fixed later."

Just ranting and moaning is like saying that a painting sucks because it is not finished and the artist as a big asshole that does not understand anything. And when it is finally finished everyone only remembers the unfinished, "crappy" product and does not give **** after that.

Problem with alphas or such usually are that if the first impression is somewhat negative or the person's brain has a malfunction and thinks"woo this has to be great superior product" even if the entire game screams "Hi I am alpha and work in progress, we're lacking testers so we have no choice but to do this and hope if people would give us some constructive critism about our mod" and then - once again - thinks it sucks ***.

I realy like the game so far, very challenging, and imo has great teamwork and from a realism aspect, sorry to say it, but I think its better than RO (awaiting incoming). My only criticism is that the hit detection system is really bad, I mean using the kar98 is hard enough, but when you shoot and hit the enemy in the chest (or anywhere but the head) and he doesn't die, let alone show any signs of being hit at all, then by the time you've bolted, your already dead. That is the only thing that has put me off so far.

Apart from that, I've had some great fun on some of the maps. On one map, I was playing as the German NCO with the mp40, and I was holding down an entire road from a small bunker, taking out all the americans advancing up the road to take the position behind me. Not one made it, and eventually they stopped coming, only sitting back and shooting from afar. I looked to my left, over by the church, and there were about 4 americans who had just flanked me. Needless to say I died very quickly.

I'm glad others witness this too.
Let's hope they can fix it in next patch.
And yes, it's fun , even in alpha state.

I think people should appreciate the fact that we have an alpha to play with in the first place.

Also I think having such problems (believe or not) generates interest in future patches, cos there are plenty of things that people like.

I am personally looking forward to the heavy mg's

We will make steps against realism that some of you won't like. Will we offer options later to roll some of them back? Maybe. Are we going to be as "simulation" as I think people are inferring from the homepage info? I don't think so, because I think we've realized there are limits.

This from someone who is in the dev team deeply concerns me. So far i like RnL but this sounds like they are aiming for the DoD crowd! Bad move!
So much for "they will change it back when ppl don

Are you serious? Because some things can't be accomplished for the sake of gameplay, it's suddenly aiming for the DoD crowd? I don't really understand the deep prejudice here against communities from games where there isn't ultra-realism. Games are games and some people enjoy certain ones more than others. I think it's dumb to have a specific hate against one group for their preference. I know that this promised to be realistic, but you have to understand, it has to be somewhat enjoyable as well.

Well we'll see how it turns out. I hope they only iron out the issues that really damage gameplay and not take out the basic realism because that's what really added to the atmosphere. But we'll see. Sadly I can already see the flame-wars starting tho :(

There are tons of games out there pledging realism but only a few who really strive for it and if someone wants playability he can go and choose of the wast majority of shooters. Yes i know it

Hmmm, I don't know why the devs are taking these steps. Most of the people on the forums seem to be realism nuts (in fact I've seen quite a few RO players on there), and on their website they say they're strifing for a realistic infantry simulation. Yet the devs point out that they want to make certain steps against realism. wtf. Manual bolting should be standard in any realistic FPS.

Stefan Bermig (RnL) said:
The only "unrealistic" (how realistic is bolting with a firebutton anyway?) feature we added was semi auto bolting. And that renders the entire mod as arcardish dod ripoff?

I have the feeling many of the devs come from the Source community, and it shows these people are less used to realism. Maybe they would realize that manual bolting is easy to get used to if they'd play RO for a couple of days.

The good thing about the Source engine is that it has a lot of players, but it's far from the perfect engine for realism.

Ok as no-ones answered my question, let me try a different approach.

Can the source engine do bullet ballistics like in RO, ie no hit-scan?

I personally think they should ditch Source and start from scratch using UE3! I know it will be hard, but it would be better for their own future!
