Ok, so I just got the game, I boot it up and the screen doesn't appear (which I've seen happen occasionally on other games) close the game with task manager and boot it up again. Everything works fine and I love the game. The next day (this will now be my third boot up) after turning my computer back on (I shut it down when I go to bed) I boot up the game and the second I get into a game it either gives me a crash error report or the graphics are all messed up. I restart get the game to work once but am kicked out for starting in the middle of a game. I try to enter a different server and my game crashes and wont work. Any suggestions?

You can try all the following (in no specific order):

  • Update DirectX
  • Disable desktop composition if you are running Vista or 7 (find your Killing Floor executable (by default in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor), right-click on it, choose properties, and in the compatibility tab select "disable desktop composition" and click OK)
  • Make sure that your graphics card is not overheating
  • Validate the KF game cache
  • Temporarily disable you AV / firewall
Someone who had this issue or a variation recently said that his was caused by Bitdefender, so if you have that you need to disable the firewall or upgrade.

I *think* it was the Disable desktop composition setting but it could also have been the validation of cache

dread boat try doing that. it worked for me! It's only crashed one time in the last 5 times I've played the game
