MP5M instead of MP5, MP7M instead of MP7, designated name, common name, designated name, AA12 instead of AA-12, old gun, SCARMK17 instead of SCAR-H or SCAR Mk17, MAC-10 instead of M10.

Edit: TBH, I don't really know much at all about the LAW or MKb42, so... yeah. I'm likely wrong on those two. Though it looks like it's MKb42 vs MKb 42 as the difference.

TDI Vector could be Vector? so if they change name from aa-12 to aa12 it's good enough? sounds 2 easy to be true

i have nothing agnist any developer but i realy like to see real or nearly real weapons

btw mac-10 is mac10 if im correct :)
m10 is however used in max payne 3...

realy? http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/M72_LAW

it's real and belive me you dont want to get hit by this :)
this weapon appers in many games

/facepalm

are you serious?

#1: LAW in itself isn't a weapon, it stands for Light Anti-Tank Weapon, so it can refer to an entire class of weapons.
#2: that weapon is a single-shot weapon, use it once and get rid of it. It's significantly different from the reusable launcher in killing floor.
#3: the closest thing to the one in killing floor is the british LAW 80, not the M72 LAW. That is also a disposable weapon (use it once and dump it)

so the LAW in killing floor is indeed a fictional weapon.

If you wanted a real weapon with similar characteristics the closest is the Carl G recoilless rifle.

Game developers often shy away from naming their weapons after real-life counterparts because there may be legal issues cropping up.

Trademarks and all that.

As someone who works within the firearms industry, I can confirm that there are certainly a few companies that are a bit touchy about having their corporate name used in some commercial application they have no control over. (Like a computer game.) I believe the Act of War: Direct Action RTS game decided to dial back the use of a few weapon manufacturer's names that were originally planned to be included after running afoul of at least one company.

Simply using model numbers, or similar designations, seemingly receives a pass.

I'll assume, (but certainly do not know for certain), that Kriss USA is one of these companies. Or, perhaps Tripwire is simply, and wisely, sidestepping any potential grief. "Cease and desist" court orders are a drag.

What's in a name? That which we call a Schneidzekk Medic Gun, by any other name would kill as sweet.

what about mp5? mp7? m4? ak47 (no it's not ak47 but it looks like ak47)? law? aa12? mkb42? scarmk17? mac10?

what about this? just wondering

I absolutely hate most of these names, except for those that are commonly known (AK47), or are easy to remember (LAW). I'd much rather they all had nicknames like the handcannon does. After all, I doubt many of the untrained civilians in the KF world know their guns very well.

We all know (or hopefully have some vague idea) what the guns are, whether from actual experience, movies or other videogames. Who cares what they're actually called? Just look at the names for the weapons in CS 1.6

Military designations are fine. Using a specific name that was given to the weapon by the manufacturer not so much.

One series that's played a lot with real firearms names is Resident Evil. It seems after RE:CV they started to bounce between using real names and slang. RE4 had names like Punisher, Striker, Broken Butterly.

Then RE5 actually included the weapons brands, with the H&K P8, Sig 556, S&W .500, before going back to stylized names in RE6. I have no idea why this is the case - but if you look at games like BF3 or Rainbow Six Vegas 2, the opening screens have a whole lot of text both crediting the manufactures of the weapons and denying any endorsement for them.
