So, I've just tried half a dozen times to join games. Each and every time I join the game and with about 10-20 seconds you get to the situation where you've obviously disconnected with everyone/everything just continuing to walk in a straight line.

I've given up trying to play for today now...

Has anyone got any idea how to solve this?

Sounds like a similar problem to this guy. What's your connection type & speed, and are other machines/applications using it while you are trying to play?

Yup sounds like exactly the same problem I have. I'm amazed I've found someone else who gets it!

... And no ways to solve it yet.. I may have found part of the problem though.. I updated the bug post Ben linked.

It's just your connection problem.

It looks same when my router has "fail time" and disconnects me from the net.

Check your ports, firewall settings (windows and your modem's or router's).
Something is blocking your connection.
Call your ISP if everything fails...
If they won't fix the problem, change the ISP.

Did you experience any problems with other applications that require internet connection ? Other games ? Programs ? Download applications ?

Turn off your firewall (or if you are scared of viruses that will slow your PC by 0.01% add KF to Firewall exceptions list).

Forward specific ports in your modem/router thingy - search a bit on forum for them =/ dunno where they are, but I'm sure I've seen them somewhere in official topics.

After an update any firewalls may require that the application be re-added to the allow list. Make sure you also add it to Windows Firewall (or disable it if you are running another good firewall).

Port forwarding is not necessary unless you are hosting a server.

Seems the same here... I have no firewall, other than the standard Windows one...

Surely if the firewall were to blame we wouldn't even get as far as joining and seeing people playing for 5-10 seconds?

That's a good point, but I have experienced a similar problem caused by a firewall. My other suggestion would be to reboot your router and see if it makes a difference (although judging by the fact that a few people have this problem I doubt it will).

Firewall off - No difference... First attempt, 10second or so into game, all the characters just walk off on their last trajectories...

Rebooted router... Next attempt I managed to find a game that worked... All the next four I tried before giving up failed again...

This has only started happening since the last update I'm sure :(

To see if it is router related, bypass your router and directly connect your network cable from your PC to whatever cable/DSL/??? modem you use to connect to the internet. It's sketchy, but it is what ended up working for me.

This post is really in the wrong forum though.

Just played 2 random games of UT2004, both worked fine.

Tried KF again, 5-10 seconds, same problem.

For me, the reconnect (in the console) - after the disconnect where all the other players/creatures just walk off in a straight line - solves it. After that, it doesn't happen again.

But the initial/first problem seems to happen line clockwork...
