The only thing stopping me playing it is the lack of maps/gametypes. :(

They are great maps, but I can't face playing them anymore especially on bloody territory!

Ten well-designed maps (and I think they are) is enough... I just want combined arms combat back. :(

I wonder if RO2 figures for players includes bots?

If so that's a bit sad. Strong initial sales are great (hell, I bought the DDE purely to support TWI - certainly I have no interest in the MkB or really in bayonets as I'm generally an LMG player). I'd have hoped the steady-state would be a bit higher in comparison to RO:O however.

I hope that Classic mode plus Mamayev plus fixing the problems some servers and redirects have with custom maps would bring back a decent chunk of the 600 or so RO:O players who stuck it out until RO2's release. Based purely on subjective feel (player names I remember from RO:O and DH, who kept playing up till the RO2 release and did purchase RO2 but no longer play it) I would hope for 200-300 of those to return. That would be a big boost to the current human RO2 player population.

Add in a fix for the anti-lag mutator crash issues, or better yet make client-side hit detection a native server option (under the banner of "improved hit detection") and it might be enough to capture a chunk of those players whose playing time dropped dramatically after the first two months. I'm not about to claim that Classic mode would attract them, but the optimisation, bugfixes and working hit detection via anti-lag client-side detection quite possibly would. You could be looking at another 1,500 or more returning players, especially if there is something of a 're-launch' with Steam messages to all owners of the game (if this is possible).

Adding in the remaining clan-play support features would help too. I'm not a clan player but I understand that by and large they run the servers that we all depend upon for our games, so keeping them happy is an investment in the future of the game.

Throw in a free weekend (better yet a free week) and / or a Steam sale with a bit more marketing spend to attract new players, get magazine / website re-reviews and hopefully more positive user coverage on metacritic. There's also the release of Rising Storm to look forward to.

We could be well on the way to a KF-style resurgence and a very healthy long-term outlook at that point!

I hope no servers run it. It belongs on xbox live.

Yes, let's abandon some of the people who really enjoy the game!

Waitaminute, lets not. Get your head out of your ass.

Indeed.... the only reason why the game hasn't died yet is because of the current players playing these game modes.

If nobody enjoyed them, nobody would be playing at all right now, and the game community would be non-existent.

I enjoy the current game modes just fine.... I'm just needing something new to be added to it after so long.

I didn't expect the mainstream to get stuck with the game despite the awesome unlock system, the fancy stuff and all that crap. Living... means that the community plays it, e.i the majority of people on this board. I don't expect many random people to play it. I believe RO2 will a live for a lot longer than people think. Ro Classic will certainly help with that.

You think it will.... you hope it will..... but there is still the risk that after a couple of months, the only people still playing will be you and those who wanted this RO Classic, which could end up being about the same amount of players currently playing who might leave if they can't find a decent server running what they like..... or who might leave because it's taking too long for new stuff to arrive in the game besides RO Classic.

I might be sounding pretty doom and gloom recently over all of this, but I'm just stating the risks that can unfold and the possible problems that can still arise.

Once RO Classic is released officially, unless a pile of more servers start hosting RO2 to help spread the variety of game modes for players (CD, FF, TE, RR, R and ROC)..... what is going to be needed is the ability to host your own "Listen Server" to ensure everybody can play online with the game modes they want, without ending up being stuck playing on servers with terrible pings, halfway around the world.

I believe I heard a Dev mention that they didn't include Listen Servers because some ISP's don't like people running those on their computers (or something like that)...... but not all ISP's give a damn & if they do, that's the player's problem, not TW's. Just put up a disclaimer in the game when you click on the Listen Server option telling you of the possible risks and away you go.

There were "a lot" of player online, yesterday. 500+

But only 40+ in the Beta :(

Join the Beta, Now! (And feel the game much more intensive)

Most of us can't simply join into the Beta because the available servers for the Beta are located halfway around the world.

Put up a server somewhere like Australia *hint hint* and get the other half of the world involved.

How can I test out this RO Classic when my ping is 400+ when I join?

I can't tell if I missed my target because of the new gameplay mechanics or because my target is actually ahead of where I was shooting and where my system showed them to be.

Oh you mean like the 50 people who play it. Get real. Only reason why THEY even play it is cause its the only version of RO 2 to play currently. Admit it, its a pile of ****.

Is that really RO2's player count? I know you tend to get a drop between release and it evening out... but that is depressing.

exactly. I love tripwire, and I need my semi-tactical realism first person shooter. With Ubisoft screwing the pooch with rainbowsix vegas, and COD, BF, being nothing better than good looking versions of Counterstrike. I only have Red Orchestra. With RO2 I can't go back to playing the crappy looking ostfront. But at the same time RO2 as it is now is half a stumble better than COD, and BF gameplay. Classic mode and free month will be the only thing that saves this community. And if it doesn't happen soon like this month I'm afraid may/june will see the online community completely gone.

Get real, people like the game, they like the fast paced aciton, they like the realistic weapon handling (compared to other games). It's a damned good game (OPINIONS), just because you don't like it doesn't mean we should fucking abandon the people that enjoy it as it is. I happen to like Classic AS WELL AS the Realism mode, but I enjoy the Realism mode that bit more because of the faster pace and less clunky feel.

Oh and to all thoes who look at the Steam graph thing and go "Oh lord, it's at 10% the peak players it had on release!". Take a ruddy long look at Skyrim, practically every agrees it's a good game and yet...whats this? It too is at around 10% of its initial player-base. This is normal for any game, the initial mad rush at the start, then people slowly getting back to their lives and mixing it up with other games...

another stupid graph

the playerbase that is left seems to pretty stable, if you just look at this year's stats. there is a slight decline, but nothing to worry about (yet). if you remove m&b:wb, the decline looks more severe because the scale of the y-axis is much smaller. i love how the graphs can be used to support opposing points of view :p

most servers are full of bots? seriously?

I don't have RO2, yet when I play RO:Ost, there's usually 1-2 good servers in my ping that are like 24/36 humans or so

that's a shame.

If you want more human opponents you need to play the normal game.
