Can't blame you if you did. I played Carmaggedon when I was 8, without my parents knowing :p

And I thought I was scarred for life when I played it at 9:p
Even then I loved it.

even more off-topic: Is it true there is gonna be a sequel being made?

Even when you're twelve, no shop will bother anyways:rolleyes:

Mature huh.............well, looks like there's a lot of forum members who'll need their mommies to go buy it for them :D
Most shops turn a blind eye to the age of the buyers, at least in my state. What they want is money and they know that most of the time mature games don't cause any impact on 10+ kids as we are all used to violence and sex from seeing it everyday on TV. When I was 12 I bought GTA Vice City, later buying GTA San Andreas at the age of 14, among a lot of other violent games (like Manhunt), and only once the sellsman didn't let me buy because of my age.

I tried to buy the remake of the first Resident Evil when I was 15 (and it was rated 15) in the local shop and I was turned down because I had no ID. "What kind of 15-year-old carries ID with him?" I asked. The shopkeeper told me to show him my citizen's card. ****ing what.

I still have yet to play that game. :(

I don't see how RO1 will make us all aggressive, since it shows the ugly side of war.

I actually think that showing people by the way of CoD (as an example), that bullets are actually not that dangerous (10 bullets to kill, ah I will survive in afghan) is far more dangerous than showing people how ugly war actually is and deter people from doing stuff like that irl.

I always thought that M for mature was 18+, but I could be mistaken (of course)

Look, violence vs videos games doesn't matter if its cod or ro, its been proven to have no serious effect over and over again by scientists and studies, this is an old media trick that is slowly dying out.

Games doesn't breed murderers or violent people, end of story.

There are far more superior things that play a role, such as your friends, parents, values and how you're raised and treated etc etc, games play such an insignificant role that its ridiculous, yet media loves to say that X dude played Y game and did Z...

I hammered away at Wolfenstein 3D and Doom back in the young days :)

That's nothing, I was about 3 years old and I have memories of playing Carmaggedon. I remembered the exact path that would take me to the football stadium on that one track, and i never even did one lap on it because to me the only point of that game was to get to the stadium and squish an infinity of helpless football players. Even I think that's pretty messed up in a way but I've always felt "Meh, it's a game" about it. Just sayin'...

Anyway, having said that, does having an 'M' Rating even change anything in most countries? Get refused at one store and they just passed off 40$ to the next one you go to.

I can't remember how old I was, but I was born in '94 and I was playing Doom and Half-Life when Half-Life was still $50.

You were playing shooters when you were 4 ?

I'm impressed :D.

Anyways, my parents were pretty chill about stuff. I watched SPR when I was 10, I was playing Operation Flashpoint by the time I was 11. Before that it was Red Alert and Battlezone and European Air War and before that it was Commander Keen :D. I still remember when I first bought Red Alert, my first "real" video game, the dumb guy in the store told me I needed a joystick to play it lol.

Speaking of OFP, anyone remember how many custom missions and mods came out for just the DEMO lol? I've never seen another game with that much user made content come out for it before the full game even came out :D.

I woulda gotten into shooters earlier if I knew about them, but I didn't. It was actually my dad of all people that showed me OFP. He saw some news article about it on a site and knew I was obsessed with military history etc. so he suggested I check it out hehe.
