And for those saying I look like I have no soul - I used to have a soul, but the continuous beatings I've received from the RO community have left me shellshocked :)

A little feedback about the video, it's very well edited and it sounded convincing for the masses. Though please, if you plan on doing these kinds of videos, put the whatever thing you're reading from directly under or above the camera.

It takes a bit off the honesty you try to give when the audience realizes everybody is reading a piece of paper to the right of the camera. A little memorizing, especially the last "hitting" part would have allowed you to look directly into the camera, making you seem more convincing.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be wise to delay the free weekend with 1 week, so the 'regulars' can play/test the final build for 1 week and servers can get ready etc?

I pretty much had the last part memorized. One of the things they teach you when you are doing things to the camera is to NOT stare directly at it. I could have looked at the camera for most of the interview, but I've been trained by lots and lots of media people to never do that. Just FYI :)

Watching that video the one thing that stuck with me was the honesty and for that I respect you

Indeed, and apparently for those in Canada it is a normal 2 day one. Not sure what either have to do with anything.
not for all of us in Canada, some of us have to work mandatory production Saturdays at a certain auto plant. But onto the real topic, I am thankful for a developer like TWI to come out and really try to give the fans what they want. Good on em for admitting to some mistakes, who here has never made one ? RO2 is still alive, and has a chance to get better...works for me.

And for those saying I look like I have no soul - I used to have a soul, but the continuous beatings I've received from the RO community have left me shellshocked :). Perhaps some good feedback on the release will bring it back again ;)

But seriously, a lot of us have been working so hard on this we're all just a little tired. As has been mentioned elsewhere I coded entire game modes in my "spare time" (you can read "spare time" as staying up til 2 am doing programming when the wife and kids are asleep).

Without wanting to sound like an assh***, but I hope you all have learned from this (developers and community). Next game TWI releases will be looked at much more closely and many of the old time fans don't buy blindly from you anymore, maybe some of the new fans will. "Fool me once, you won't fool me twice".
Shortly after the release, many thought TWI behaved like an elephant in a porcellain shop. This has significantly changed to the better again and I am extremely happy about that.

Rather than programming until 2 am in the morning and be seperated from wife and kids, time-managing is important and better post-pone a rushed release to "when it's done".

Anyways, happy to see the new spread excitement again. Let's try our best to get players sucked into RO 2.

Sensemann speaks a lot of... sense. :)

I am definitely willing to give this another go though, and I've got a fair number of people on Steam waiting for the new GOTY patch to go up so they can re-download and try it with me. :D

I studied media myself, and I thought that was only true for movies, to not break the fourth wall.

But if you are sending a direct message to the audience, just like in any normal conversation, you just can't stare directly all the time, but is good to make eye contact; there shouldn't be any forth wall.

Works for Tim Schaffer:

Double Fine Adventure - YouTube

and definitely worked for Arenanet who managed to brainwash millions with this video:

Guild Wars 2 Manifesto Trailer [HD] - YouTube

If you never make eye contact it looks like you are talking to somebody else, but since nobody else is shown talking to you, it just seems weird.

Im mostly on TW with the whole "eye contact" thing. In a discussion humans never look each in other they eyes all the time. It is usually for 2-3 seconds and that you start to look somewhere else and repeat the whole thing. If you look somebody in the eye all the time it is also very unatural and also a bit frightening.

Hey all, new here!

I run a clan mainly focussed on Frostbite games. With the news of the update, I'm going to put up a server and promote the game within the clan. However, whilst I really do appreciate the fact that 'realism' mode is where it's at, I feel that the new 'action' mode stands a good chance of attracting new players. I think that coupled with the free weekend it's a good move by the developers.

Having kept an eye on RO2 as I'm excited about the 'In Country' mod it's been great to see a developer continuing to support their game. By all accounts that support will not be dropping either. Other games released at the same time are completely dead.

Server is up and so just waiting for the update to roll out. That's if I can get my head around the server config lol.

cheers utopiate

Hey guys, have updated the server with the new files so now just awaiting the client rollout, anyone know when?

The server is a 40 slot 'Action' server for beginners, dependent upon whether its successful I'll boost it up to 64. Running TE. I think I may need some help sooner or later with the config as it has a playground full of vars :D, any offers of help really appreciated. It's a shame the free weekend is the same as BF3's double XP weekend but hey ho.

cheers utopiate

Well I for one thank TWI for the amount of work they're still willing to put into this and the obvious commitment they show. I sure will be joining in during the event and see how the noobs are doing ;)

On the video, I encourage you to see how for instance WolfireGames does their videos. Although they do videos a lot more regularly and mostly just from in-game, their videos seem a lot more relaxed a lot less "corporate" or advertisement-y, which I found most "jarring" if you can go so far as to call it that, in your video.

also...
... As has been mentioned elsewhere I coded entire game modes in my "spare time" (you can read "spare time" as staying up til 2 am doing programming when the wife and kids are asleep).

Aren't those regular programming hours? :p

Here's to a fun weekend with RO2 ;) Let's try to use this opportunity to reinforce team play and communication in regular pub play.

You'd be surprised. The game industry can be brutal like that, especially for small developers like TWI.

They are in good company though. Funnily enough there are many stories of Tim Sweeney of Epic's rather crazy work schedule during the development of the original Unreal engine, the spiritual successor to which this game is coded on top of. :p

If this is a statement to TWI's level of maturity in the industry, let's all hope that 15 years from now they have seen similar successes as Epic has to date :)

I'll concede that they probably bit off a little bit more than they could chew with this game, (but I am glad they did, as I'll take a rough start over the game not existing any day) but to all those that seem to suggest that they have dropped the ball, abandoned the game and not been working hard enough, that's just total bs.

Keep in mind they are not a very large company, at ~25 people (last time I saw a count).

Just because they don't post their daily schedules for us to look at on the forum (and they shouldn't) doesn't mean they haven't been putting in some LONG hours, and for this I am appreciative and everyone who loves the RO franchise should be as well.

Did you even watch the video? A couple more vids and Ramm could easily run for Teleprompter of the United States. He's better at mea culpas than the current TOTUS.

I just recently reinstalled RO1, having a blast at the moment, then someone told me about the free weekend of playing. I went onto steam and all I see is a cheaper deal for the game (which is a very reasonable price) but I wanted to try the game out before I purchase it so I can see if my computer can run it. So is it free, or am I doing something wrong?

p.s. my specs are.

Ms Windows 7 Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i3-2120 @ 3.30 ghz
4.0 gig of ram
AMD RADEON HD 6450

The free weekend didn't start yet, due to last minute fixes the start is delayed a couple of hours.

Your pc should be fine enough, my PC is worse in every aspect of yours and I can run the game on 1920x1080 on high settings without a problem.

You're good expect the video card which is really low-end. Not sure how well you can run the game with it. (I'd say low - medium, and low resolution)
