I was messing around with skinning some weapons and I changed the color of the katana to see if it'd work

How did you do that?
Did you just replace the texture or did you somehow re-link it like the tutorial says you can do it with character skins?
Is that applicable to specimens too?

I used a green lightsaber texture from the starwars.wikia
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Yoda-SWM80.jpg

And for the pulsating effect:

1) Replace:

KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_Bloody with a darker shade
KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_D with a light shade

2) Right click on each of the textures and go to Properties > Animation.
For KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_Bloody add Texture'KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_D' and set MaxFrameRate to 32.0

Do the reverse for KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_D

Both of the images should now animate in game and maintain that pulsating effect.

after i do all of that to the katana, will everything be saved into the KF_Weapons2_Trip_T? like the animation and all?
or is KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_D and KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.melee.Katana_Bloody saved into a .int file or something somewhere else?

like if i were to copy the original KF_Weapons2_Trip_T file back into the Textures folder to get the original katana back, or a different skinned katana, would it still animate that way because i edited those animations?

Everything will need to be overwritten and saved into the original texture pack. We can use it locally but will get mismatch on another server unless they replace those texture files as well.

I'll set up a dedicated passworded server later so we can test things out. I'd like to capture some video with Boba brandishing a saber.

i'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. o_O

and that sounds fine by me. would you need to send me the animated version?

The animation effect is stored in the KF_Weapons2_Trip_T folder itself and if you import the originals back or any other texture it'll remove the animation link.

We'd need to send each other the modded files for joining the same server. I'll upload the texture pack later as it's a biggie.

I've set up a server called Sandcrawler.net [JPN] (124.97.124.43) currently running the pulsing saber files. http://www.filefront.com/16746333/KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.zip

After we test that I'll add the red saber files. I think that'll contrast nicely with the Boba or any other player skin.

Joining's no issue as long as the server and client have identical files. In fact, we can still earn achievements and use perks as standard.

I set up a second server using the Red Lightsaber texture. I don't have remote access to the server and this will ensure both sets are accessible regardless.

The Green's on :7707 and the Red's on :7709
