I would like to have a good balance between „old weapons“ and silly tacticool stuff for the COD generation. This game totally needs a high powered bolt action rifle with iron sights and a nice wooden stock. And if you think only a „deluded or stupid person“ would use anything else than the most sophisticated and modern weapons in an post apocalyptic world, you should think about where you would get the ammo and spare parts from. You would be relatively quick back to what every hunter has in his arms cabinet. ;)
I didn't mean old weapons as in WW2, I meant most 19th century and earlier weaopns, although some things such as winchester 1887 10 gauge lever action shotgun would be awesome and serve well.
I never said anything like "would use anything else than the most sophisticated and modern weapons in an post apocalyptic world,"
As I was saying just 2 posts before you, there are good reasons why earlier 20th century weapons would be about and used in apocalypse, although many old weapons would be the ones which were hard to find ammo and parts for unlike the more modern weapons.
Also I think Call of Duty is actually the main game which made ww2 weapons, especially bolt-action rifles, so popular amongst games

1887 shotgun would be awesome, it's at top of shotgun votes in voting thread i made

Well the Colt SMG is probably going to be a low level weapon that i think is made to be easily assessable at early waves and the MP5 is most likely going to return as a medic specialized weapon. (and would be very expensive off perk). also i hope to see the M4 return.

also i too would like some German charterers too since it it's going to be a continental Europe adventure

You actually spawn with it. One interview a couple months ago said that you spawn with primary weapons to not make the first round such a throw-away round. If you were below level 5, then you would usually use the sharpshooter on the first wave and switch for the next.

Personally I really hope that the Steampunk guns and characters don't return. They really do not fit into the game.

KF2 is all across continental Europe, they said, don't get too caught up on France just because Paris is the only city name dropped so far.
Also, the trader is now a 3d printer, so plausibility-wise, the origin of the weapons design could just as easily come from anywhere on earth.
Theme-wise, though, I do agree that keeping to local weapons when there's nothing foreign that's particularly more suitable for a particular intended role would be good.
So far I'd say the confirmed American weapons are all justifiable enough.

9mm AR15 was probably chosen because commando is classically about assault rifles and battle rifles. 9mmAR has the aesthetics of a very common and iconic assault rifle, while realistically having the weakness of a SMG. So it's an excellent choice for a tier 1 commando weapon. I can't think of any European SMG conversions of European assault/battle rifles that retain as much of their original aesthetic.

MP5 is just a 9mm G3, basically, but it's iconic in its own right, since the G3 is mostly out of service, and the MP5 is still used the world around.
SMGs that are iconic in their own right will probably go to perks other than commando. MP5 will probably go to medic, if it returns.

Beretta 92 will probably have its original name, or something even more generic, like kf1's "9mm Tactical". It's from Italy, and part of Italy is considered continental Europe, so it fits the setting well enough even without the less recognizable designations. So I'd rather them not call it PAMAS.

Mossberg 500 could have been another Italian shotgun instead, but for contrast with the Benelli M4, maybe it's best it wasn't. And there aren't a lot of common iconic pump shotguns from continental Europe other than Italy. So it may as well be whatever pump shotgun TWI had on hand. Or whatever's for sale within walking distance of them. So M500 was fairly likely. Something a little more classically styled than the rolling thunder model would have been nice, though.

AA12 has no continental european equivalent. HK CAWS kind of gets close, but doesn't have the capacity. So for a 20rd detachable mag of 12g, it's either AA12 or an American-customized Saiga or VEPR. VEPR could also do 25, and AA12 could do 32.

SCAR's a bit American, but mostly Belgian, so it's fine.

I don't think that they can really use specific weapons because of the whole patent thing. If you want to go really realistic, you would need to have guns that would be actually 3d printed. I think that it would be cool if when you first get the gun from the printer, that the metal parts would be glowing orange from the heat of producing metal into that shape that quickly, unless you would make everything out of some type of plastic material and fade till you would pick it up. The weapons with wood parts would have a lot of sawdust and scraps coming out of it as the wood gets cut to specs. Wood would have some burn marks because of the heat. There would be no need for screws or other things to hold it together between like materials unless it is a movable part and moves independent of the other like material because it would be made all at once and with no extra attachments to be added after. It would probably also help to see how 3d printed weapons are made irl and to take from that something that will look badass.

Real 3D printed firearms are pretty lame looking :/
Also from what I understand most of them can't handle more than 1 or 2 shots, so this is a special 3D printer :)

Oh my god. I think we need a plastic-printed novelty gun that can only fire a single low-cal bullet and explodes in your hand in the process. Imagine the achievement for killing something with it! :p

But yeah, presumably the 3D printers in game are going to be tiny, self-contained factories more than the knick-knack constructors that real life technology has currently.

This is the most ridiculous pretentious thread I have ever seen on these forums.

I suppose we can't have katanas either since they are japanese origin or an axe because that is for cutting trees. No way would a futuristic GAME stoop to weapons NOT MADE IN THE SAME COUNTRY!

That isn't particularly called for.

OP is obviously (in my opinion) trying to make himself sound smart and cool by throwing out all these gun names that I don't even think 1% of people know what he's talking about which I think is the definition of pretencious. Not only that but the idea of realism in a sci fi game is ridiculous and this guy seems like he is just trying to get more attention for himself.

But that is like just my opinion so ...

Despite the sci-fi world of KF2, one of its main marketing points (and even what TWI is known for in general) is of course its realistic weapons, so I don't see what's so pretentious about delving into that aspect to a degree
you also might be mistaking pretentiousness for enthusiasm :D I've seen way more flagrant examples of the flaunting of gun knowledge
If you have a passion for something, it can be irritating to see it misrepresented in media, and many people do have a passion for guns; they certainly have played a large part in the shaping of the world as we know it today, for better or for worse, but now i'm sounding pretentious. Really it's not surprising to see this kind of thing.
To get back to it, this isn't about not wanting fantasy weapons or even unusual melee weapons, OP even said in the first post that he was fine with those, all this is about is wanting the weapons that are based on their real life counterparts to be ones that you'd find in that area rather than halfway across the world
Overall you're making a lot of assumptions about the guy and twisting what he's saying.

I wouldn't say so. This is an issue that has been discussed lots in the context of KF1, plus alot of people in this community are pretty gun-savvy; TW games attract that type (my type :D)
Also realism in a sci-fi game isn't ridiculous. Part of the point of sci-fi is that it is close-ish to the real world. Otherwise it'd just be fantasy.

Yeah most of the guns he mentioned are pretty well known firearms.
Ha, the only word in the OP I didn't immediately recognize was "parisian" and I'm pretty sure I can figure out what that means :T

'I don't fully understand it, so it's stupid' think that's basically the crack here.

The information is all correct, they know what they're talking about, and its a forum discussion. Its not pretentious in any way.

*just because I read it earlier and I need to correct: The reason for the SA80mk1's magazine falling out wasn't to do with bad stampings, it was to do with the poor location of the release switch. Whenever a soldier lay down to fire, or aimed closely down sight, their chin would hit the switch. Just poor design.

Also because of the bullpup design, and how high up the chamber/ejection mechanism was, they couldn't make the weapon ambidextrous as originally intended. Because if fired from a left had grip, the operator would have a red hot casing fired into their face....just an interesting fact.

Please just disregard everything I have said so far, I'm just being moody because I'm PMSing and I shouldn't be so condescending because I don't understand something.

That being said and because I want to try and add something to the discussion, because it is scifi I wod be interested in seeing not well known or even fictional weapons in KF2. For me there doesn't have to be a good reason as to why the weapon is there, I just want to play with different weapons that aren't the same as every shooter out there. Games is a way to esscape realism for me, so I don't really care if the game seems particularly real.

Well in my opinion, I would disagree with the OP here, I think Tripwire shouldn't be limited to just the setting when choosing the weapons, they should have the freedom to select guns as they see it fit,
And besides, the weapons that we are buying from are gonna come from a 3D Printer,
I don't think a 3D-Printer would care :p

Just my 2 cents on this situation :3
