Pretty hard. OFP is large-scale simulation quality game, RO is FPS scale, somewhat simulation quality game.

OFP is a simulation of what WW3 would be like.

RO is a simulation of what WW2 was like.

So basically RO is more about infantry and the some what modern tank warfare. While OFP is all about precision and modern technology. Kinda hard to compare though, its like apples and oranges to some.

hmm I would have thought operation flashpoint to be an FPS type thing too, but it seems to attract alot of older more mature experienced audiences who are especially into the whole simulation thing. I'm planning on buying it, but I've read some mixed reviews and I'm not sure whether it's the simulator it claims to be.

I also wondered if there were any other WWII simulators out there. The main raeson I bought RO was because all the simulators out there were modern based, not WWII. I just wondered if the next step is to make RO something like operation flashpoint. Plus operation flashpoint was made a while ago, so I'd think there's something good in the future of RO.

There are lots of things simplified in OFP (for gameplay

You could better wait a month, cause Armed Assault will be released by then.

Armed Assault is basically Operation Flashpoint and Operation Flashpoint: Resistance (same time, same map, same missions, same war, yadda-yadda) but it has a graphical overhaul and some realism checks.
It also adds a new island codenamed: "Sarah" and Join-In-Multiplayer which finally makes it worth playing online! ;)
I heard it will have a budget game price like €30's or equal.

Don't forget that it's huge, so the graphics are amazing for the sheer size of this game: (not only talking about the 25km

Also, Brothers in Arms is good game to get some feelings out. It is not actually simulator but the squad leading works and F.E. BiA has very good sounds, and if you get dirt in your face, you can dirt in your cameraview, and also if you get raindrops in your eye, you see the same effect etc.

Also, the gameplay is rather fun, especially on Authentic- difficulty, since only save is in the beginning of the mission, you really need to proceed carefully and master your squadleading techniques

Sorry but Total Annihilation remains the most moddable game i have ever seen. They are breaking so called engine limits even today.

You're better off not getting too close to forests in a tank. They're usually crawling with Spetz:D

Well, Brothers in Arms is the more cinematic style of game.
It has lens flare, raindrop-lens, dirt-lens, blood-lens effects, cinematic music and the scenes are pretty dramatic though.

It's more the movie-FPS game, rather than simulator or realism FPS.

According to Bohemia Interactive Studios and ofp.info it was somewhere in April/May...

I am aware of that, but IMHO, it goes as squadleading simulator on the other hand. And to be honest, isn

I like some of the points you all made but I think it's hard to compare the realism between the two eras...

The 1940's realism was much different in terms of ballistics and armor than the modern day high velocity bullets and reinforced armor plating.

But ya, both games IMO offer very realistic simulations of warfare in their respective eras.

OFP was nice, but the movement was so jerky and the fact that one could clip through buildings really detracted from the immersion. RO wins in this aspect.

Are you trying to get yourself killed?

And has I44 even been released yet? The only thing that's been there for years is a mapless demo. It'd be nice if they stopped branching out into different scenarios and release the damn mod already.
